......and I also remember him playing the "The Duke" in John Carpenter`s "Escape from New York"

I LOVED the theme from Shaft - remember it getting used in "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka!"? the hero guy is followed everywhere by a band playing theme from shaft  :)
