We'll get to see lots of oil leaks? ::) ;D

Crankcases split the wrong way. The nips figured it out quickly enough.
-
Took them a while longer to figure out grip and handling though. ;)
I still have a soft spot for old Triumphs and Nortons, but I wouldnt want to have to use one as daily transport.

Also, woefully inadequate flanges, so leaks guaranteed.

My Dad made me put a tray underneath my first motorbike when I was 16, ....because motorbikes always leak oil! ::)
He was amazed that my little Kawasaki didn't leak. ;D

I would love an old Commando. It could be the 750 or 850 but it must have a black tank with gold lettering. :y

I had a selection of RD 250/350/400 and seized every one of them at some point. Holed pistons as well.
The old 2 strokes were great fun though before we all decided we needed to save the planet. :-\

That is exactly what I want. :y
Excessive vibration was a problem for many old Brit bikes killing batteries and ignition coils.
-
That old Ariel of mine didn't used to vibrate so much as shudder every time it fired :D No battery to take a pounding on it either as it was on magneto ignition-great for unlit country lanes when you shut the throttle for the bends and the lights dimmed :o ;D

I prefer this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Norton-cafe-racer-triton/253451337204?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49925%26meid%3D6aedb64afe304485871bb9ce5e92d9e2%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Des%26sd%3D152078519754%26itm%3D253451337204&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

I got caught riding a balck Dunstall 750 Commando when I was 16. The mate who owned absolutely destroyed the engine soon after as he was used to 2 stroke Kwaks, and wouldn't accept that the Norton wasn't going to rev the same way they did. ::)
Triumph Trident was my favourite British bike. Would do around 120, which was as quick as almost anything else around at the time
-
Well it was quite interesting, but too many talking heads and not enough bikes! ::)

My first (and only) bike was a Greeves 250cc Villiers twin road bike. Was great to have my first motorised transport. Had to go when first child arrived, (now 53). Never had another bike, :'( :'( so far. :)

53 is the new 43, so get back on 2 wheels & start enjoying the thrill again.
Just don`t forget, it`s now 1 down & 5 up ;D

;D ;D Excuses, excuses ::).......... reminds me of the time I asked my great Uncle what it felt like to be 80 years old. He had a good long think & then in mixed company he said; " Well when I go to sit down now, my balls sit down about half a second before my ass does " :o

Yes, far too much blather, and worst of all was the taffy doing the voice-over, when all of the bikes were English (not "British", as the title suggests).
When did the scotch or welsh ever make a motorbike?
Ron.

.......and the gearshift is on the left......unlike the Brit iron of yesteryear. :y

Never been into bikes , been pillion a few times & enjoyed it but prefer 4 wheels , love looking at some of the old ones though.
-
I did my test in 1978 along with my HGV and tracked in the army never ridden a bike since prefer 4 wheels
-
I love them, but Ive given them up. Too old and knackered for them now.
There is nothing in the realm of four wheels that compares with riding a fast bike on the limit imo. Absolutely nothing.
Makes you feel more alive than anything else can. Which is why its so addictive I suppose.

I agree with you except to say skiing is even more 3 dimensional. My brother has still got his R1 but only uses it on dry warm days.
My neighbour graduated to Japanese bikes having had various British. It was a Honda 250. He took it back as there was so much vibration hecouldnt reach the claimedtop speed. Turned out there was yet another gear. I had a JamesCaptain with just 2 gears at the time.

Would have loved to have tried skiing, but I did to much damage to my right leg when I was 16 for it to be a possibility unfortunately.

It's not for me. I could have both my legs broken here, and save all the silly clothes, cold, travel etc and end up in hospital where the nurses speak English****

Thing that gave me a thrill and rush
Jumping out of a perfectly good plane 10.000 feet :y
