Congrats and good luck! :y

Well done that man :y Hope you like it :)

Thanks everyone.
As well as guarding the premises , i will be trained on the basics of the machinery etc; as some things need switching on/off at certain times and putting right if they go wrong.
Often required to do 3 x 15 hour shifts, but then get 3 days off afterwards.
the main thing is ,its a job,and if an old geezer like me ,with a spazzy leg and no formal qualifications can find one ,then there is hope for anyone. :y

I do mainly 15 hour shifts...except weekends and then its only 12.
The 15"s are ok as long as you can get 6/8 hours kip each shift....any less than that and it becomes a long shift. :y
I assume you have your SIA license already..?
-
not got sia......job title is company gaurdian, rather than security gaurd, maybe that is a loophole to avoid the licencing issue ? :-/
-
nice one albs and welcome to the wonderful world of security ::) ::) make sure you`ve got a good supply of coffee and choccy biccys come in quite handy for whiling away the quiet hours :y :y I take it the jobs inhouse? or will you have to apply for an sia badge?
-
Thanks Bertie, the job is in house (and mostly indoors)not much actual work involved, just got to get used to the long nights.
-
I think Bertie and Albitz must now surely be known as "The Management" ;D

A licence is required but it is referred to as a non-front line licence and is not in the form of a card. Each individual involved with managing or directing such security activities should apply. See below.
Who Needs a Licence?
A Security licence is required when manned guarding activity, that does not fall under the descriptions of door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, or public space surveillance (CCTV), is undertaken. This applies only if your services are supplied for the purposes of or in connection with any contract to a consumer.
Two Types of Licence
There are two types of SIA licence:
A front line licence is required if undertaking licensable activity, other than key holding activities (this also covers undertaking non-front line activity). A front line licence is in the form of a credit card-sized plastic card that must be worn, subject to the licence conditions.
A non-front line licence is required for those who manage, supervision and/or employ individuals who engage in licensable activity, as long as front line activity is not carried out - this includes directors* or partners. A non-front line licence is issued in the form of a letter that also covers key holding activities.
*For the purposes of the Private Security Industry Act 2001, "director" means executive and non-executive directors, shadow directors, parent company directors and corporate entities holding a directorship.
If you have a non-front line licence you do not need to get another one if you are involved in another area of non-front line licensable activity (for example: if you are a director of a firm supplying security guards but you also supply vehicle immobilisers, you will not need to get two licences).

Well you can deal with the SIA badge later you do have some time in which to apply and do the training and hopefully your new boss will be contributing towards the cost if not paying for it and you then paying it back via your wages.... :y
-
I will raise the subject after i start work ;)
I would imagine they would pay, as they seem pretty decent, they give share options ,private healthcare and a few other perks,
My employment starts on mon. 1st Sep. -my 1sr shift is on Sat, the 6th,.....which is nice. :)
-
Good luck, hope it all work out OK...... :y
