Title: AC Pipes
Post by: amba on 26 April 2018, 16:48:39
Need to replace an AC condensor on daughters car and have just ordered the O ring set for the pipework.

What is the now recommended lubricant for the O ring seals ...seem to remember is used to be PAG but has that now changed

You could lubricate them with fluid drips from the disconnected pipes.

The system is emptier than a "very empty thing " so doudt even a drip will come out ...think is got to be a mineral oil ??

You do still own an Omega? It's bound to be leaking, just use a smear from that 8)

But if the system is empty will there still be any residue left ?

Depends how and why you believe it to be empty ;)

Holed condensor and when vac,d last week showed as empty,so assumed nothing left in it.

As the cold old French have fitted the coolant radiator direct to the ac condensor trying to do it as cheaply as possible or I would of bought a small bottle of PAG Oil .

Hope I can get a few drips out of the condensor then just to lube up the new O rings as don't want to rely on the existing sealing again

They don't really need lubricant, bit of the green refrigerant, if any comes out.

Fair dos, just clarifying the difference between 'think it's empty because it has stopped working' and knowing it's empty ;)
