4 speed, 5 speed or 4 speed with overdrive?

Think the autos are 4 speed with sport button of course but not sure. :-/

Would have thought the numbers by the gear lever would tell you.
There was a thread with a 5 speed auto in last week, gear numbers where 2-3-4-5

mine goes 1234d but im certain theres one more...

4 speed box has the markings by the gear selector PRND321 so looks like yours is the 5 speed mate.

Four gears plus an overdrive that locks the torque converter at about 49mph in 4th and drops the revs by about 500. It'll lock up at about 45 in 3rd as well if it's the same box as my 99 3.0. 3rd gear lockup can be useful when you're behind a Rover doing 45 in a 50 zone!

The Rover drivers must be faster in your neck of the woods then. ::) I dream of locking up in 3rd sometimes on my way to work (country A road). Doesn't get a chance to lock up when I get a clear run either though. ;)
