Title: Rev counter and fuel gauge jumping up and down
Post by: MonzaGSE on 24 August 2018, 18:23:34
Hi. Finally picked up the 94 mv6 today. Its been sitting at the welders shop for over a year. First 5 min after startup the rev counter and fuel gauge would jump up and down between zero and actual reading. Engine ran fine the whole time. After the car had been running for a while they worked fine. Tried starting it again when i got home and the needles jumped up and down a few times only this time before settling. Figured it must be a instrument cluster problem since i Cant see any other issue that would affect both fuel gauge and rev counter in the same way? Engine temp and speedo worked fine. Can the fant that the car has stood over a year without power on the battery cause this?

It’s the capacitors on the back of the Rev counter board you need to open up the dash and remove the gauge pins and the remove the trox screws and carefully open the case up. In the back of the casing there is a board that’s clipped in place on that there is 2. Apasitors these to need replacing. Around £2 for them both these smith the power for the revcounter and the fuel gauge when they warm up they will work the voltage properly but until they changed it will get worse. Make sure you replace them with 105c  Type think one is 10v and other is 16v.
