Title: Scallop wars
Post by: Varche on 29 August 2018, 18:15:44
lucky no one was injured or worse.

I can understand the Frenchies being upset at our guys hoovering up the scallops before they are allowed to fish them.

I blame it on a lack of common rules. Someone ought to be ashamed

We have our own aircraft carrier now. Not sure if its carrying aircraft yet though.  ;D
Anyway, its the French, they will wave the white flag if someone in a rowing boat points an airgun at them.  :D

Yep. Blockades are their favourite negotiating tactic. If farmers, fishermen, taxi drivers, etc., have an axe to grind they bring Paris to a standstill, and if that doesn't work, they blockade Calais and bring everything to a standstill.
Got to admire them, in a left wing kind of way.

That's because they know the French government will cave in and give them what they want rather than face them down.

I'm kinda with the Frogs on this. Just doesn't make sense. Pretty sure our lot would complain if boot was on other foot.

BTW, scallops are orgasmic if done properly. Maybe pan seared in garlic butter with a bit of smoked bacon, sorry Lardon for the plebs out there.   ;)

Boot is on the other foot. Various other member states - mainly Spanish factory ships, but also the French among others,  have the right to come and plunder British fishing grounds while our trawlermen are struggling to earn a basic crust.
The UK fishing fleet is a shadow of what it was due to this.

Many years ago, this sort of thing would be looked upon as a declaration of war,and the fleet would have been sent to protect our interest's, (awaits a historical reference), but most off the fleet now is in dock, might need to resurrect the little ships.

The bad news is that we have very few frigates and destroyers on patrol in UK waters but we do have plenty at their berths due to manpower shortages. The good news that those carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles won't need to leave their berths to take out any target this side of Poland. 8) :y
