Title: 2.5 V6 pre-catalyst shroud
Post by: Tick Tock on 05 September 2018, 17:36:31
Hi, Can anyone tell me the importance of the shroud which is fitted on the downpipe / cat section of the exhaust?

Offside intact, but N/S has almost completely rusted away, revealing wadding and in danger of bits falling away during travel. I've pulled it all off now, but wondered if it might affect performance, ECU readings etc. Any info welcomed  :y

Was about to type 'pull the remains off and forget about it'...

Your use of the word 'wadding' worries me :-\

Any evidence of blowing?

There is wadding between the pipe and shield on non DBW V6...  ...well, those where it hasn't fallen out.

OP - enough left to jubilee clip it to make secure? If not, rip it off.

It's ripped off, wadding insulation in the bin, remains of shroud in the recycling bin, why's it there in the first place? Non DBW 2.5

Ah, ok :y

Presumably there to insulate the pipe both to keep the heat in for emissions purposes and to prevent heat damage under the car... grass fires etc  ;)
