I remember this. The popular belief at the time is that they thought it was Tower Bridge, but not so.

Yes, that clever man saved the bridge, but I also remember that it was rumoured that he believed to be buying Tower Bridge. :D ;)

I suspected that it was just a rumour - not even a yank would be THAT stupid - but I wanted to believe it!  ;D
