This is big News at the moment and quiet rightly so as far as Im concerned, in a Nut Shell Icelands Christmas TV Ad was to run up to Christmas as awareness of Iceland's now refusing to sell Any Products that contain Palm Oil, due to the destruction it leaves behind on our Planet.
And what do the UK Censors do, ...they Ban it as its Too Political, F@cking Muppet's.

We only buy these things because they're foisted upon us. Change needs to start somewhere and it's clearly a bold step for a modest retailer... I bet the likes of Waitrose etc are wishing they had the balls to even suggest it...

Palm oli is in a hell of a lot of products.yŷ :o

Big corporate money rules sadly.

There's more to it than just that.
The 'advert' was a video clip created by Greenpeace to push their political agenda. Iceland asked and Greenpeace allowed them to use the clip as an advert. But it has its roots in a political message which is bammed under current advertising rules.
If Iceland had used it as a basis for their own advert there would have been little or no problem.

Iceland is slowly but surely replacing other manufacturers products which contain palm oil with its own version.
I work for the company now and the majority of its edible products are specifically produced to Iceland spec and in a lot of instances, companies owned by Iceland.
To be fair, the quality and range is excellent and a match for anything out there imo :)
As for the advert, banning it is the best thing that could have happened :y
I did a 6 hour stint on the till yesterday afternoon and the amount of people asking about palm oil products was unbelievable :o
We literally had people removing things from there trolleys and going back into the store to pick up a Iceland brand :y ;D
All I can say is, thank you to Sainsbury's and Walmart for allegedly having a quite word :-X :-X :-X

Gaffers makes a very valid point. If they allow Iceland to use a film produced by Greenpeace in their advert, then they would lose the right to stop any other company from using films made by any other lobby group or political organisation in their adverts.
It would be the thin end of the wedge, even if it was well intentioned.

Didn,t realise it was a Greenpeace inspired vid. :-[
