Title: Schoolkids on strike.
Post by: Migv6 le Frog Fan on 15 February 2019, 18:09:41
Imo it is despicable for children to be dragged into politics. One teacher who supports the action said during his verbal dysentery like ramble today, that if any kids leave school and vote Tory, then teachers have failed in their duty.
It looks like it became a protest against climate change, Brexit and Trump.
I would like to see any staff who supported this sacked and banned from schools for life, but meanwhile any school who employs staff who supported it, should be laughed at if they ever try to fine or prosecute parents who take their kids out of school for any reason.
Otherwise, the state has now officially taken power of parenting away from parents and replaced it with state thought control.
This, by the way is what usually happens in totalitarian Socialist societies.
Over to you STEMO.  :)

Kids mobilised for political gain?. You couldnt make it up. I remember school as a place of learning not protests.

We did have mock elections at senior school with Harvey Postlethwaite getting in on the Tory ticket. He went on to become an MP. Most kids voted how their mates voted not for principles

Of course these poor little brainwashed snowflakes never use polar bear killing electricity to charge their iphones, PS4,s  etc. and fly around the globe on aeroplanes to go on the holidays they feel entitled to...…. ::)

You're right, children should emerge from school politically ignorant, with no interest in the future but able to vote. None of my teachers were required to hide their political affiliations, and they ranged right across the spectrum.

Presumably you also disapprove of teenagers addressing party conferences? Think back 41 years......

When they find how nice a V8 is, they will change their minds,  bloody having there little minds corrupted, being groomed by Green tree hugging lentil munching teachers.

Climate change is poppy cock, as it allegedly killed the dinosaurs, and they didn't even drive. :y

It passed by without a whimper here. The wife knew nothing about it when she came home. It appears to me that the lefty media bigged it up, as usual.
You know, like when you go outside and fall over all the obese people who've had their gender reassignment jobbies. Then you get stabbed by 25 black yoofs before being robbed by a desperate drug addict while you're on the floor.
Terrible world, innit?

It's fortunate that dinosaurs couldn't drive. The T-Rex would have suffered from terrible road rage. :)

William Hague ? he was a t wat then, and still is.  :)
Children should not be "learning" their political opinions at school. School isn't for forming opinions it should be for teaching facts.
Real political opinion comes with life experience, and adult responsibilities, which is why people shouldn't be allowed to vote until they have paid at least five consecutive years of income tax.  :)

Just watched that item on the news, Albs. Do you think that all of those schoolkids were expressing their OWN well-reasoned opinions, or well-rehearsed dogma?

facts are useless without analysis. Schools and further education actually teach the techniques to do that, whether they're opinion based like humanities, abstract tools like mathematics, or science and engineering which combine both. Students leaving a good school, of whatever type, will have at least a basic grounding in how to be able to think about facts, dogma, opinion and conjecture. That will give them a good start for their adult responsibilities.

Of course these kids know very little about politics and are too young to have had much time to learn about the real ins and outs about climate change, you can't put an old head on young shoulders and they haven't lived long enough to form a reasonable opinion. But of course as all of us when we were that age, we would do any thing for a day off. :) I noticed a few grown ups and I use the term loosely.., jumping on the wagon, trafic lights, buses.... this country is becoming a joke, and just at a time we really need to look good :(

I consider myself to have been very lucky to have gone to a grammar school, wherein I was taught HOW (not WHAT) to think, and not to accept anything blindly but to seek the reason why. Maybe that's why I am such an argumentatve bugger? :-[

I don't think that this has anything to do with politics. It's just a bunch of kids expressing their outrage/fear about what they see as impending doom. I don't think it was aimed at any particular party.
A bit like our CND marches of the 70's. But read into it what you will.

that's exactly what my sister and I were told at our grammar schools. Although that principle isn't limited to grammar schools.

One of the many reasons I am anti EU is that an Economics teacher at school was so pro European that half the projects various year groups did in my seven year residency were about how shiny and great the EU was. It was vomit inducing enough to put me off for life.

Similarly another teacher, my housemaster, took it upon himself to ban The Life of Brian as he felt it utterly offensive. It is still my favourite Monty Python film, even if it isn't their best work...

Life of Brian should be made a mandatory watch for all.

So on one hand we moan about the yoof of today being glued to their phones and spending their days in bed, but when they do engage we moan that they are being brainwashed by their teacher/Universities/EU etc  :-\  ::)

Universities have always been denzions of leftwing encouragement. Fortunately most of the people who go to them are intelligent enough to see past the Marxist rhetoric and emerge as relatively normal people.

Culling the NUS would go someway to redressing the bias as it actively encourages lefty poncification.

I attended grammar school in the early seventies.

When not expelled for being disruptive and 'an instigator' I would spend most of my time sitting outside the headmaster's office waiting to be given the cane. :) :)

Ah....good times. :)

.    Yes mine too, and he had Nystagmus so missed quite a bit or caught you right on the end of the fingers, and then you would get blamed for moving your hand and had another crack added. He would be up for GBH if it were today!  Very painful for the more adventurous of us :(
