Title: Wheels
Post by: gbh on 20 February 2019, 16:07:56
Just paid a visit to my local scrap yard and I saw an Sri with a set of very nice 17" rims and thought would they fit my Omega as my Elite rims are a bit rough but the tyres are good ? The tyres on the Sri are 215/50ZR17 and my Eilte are 235/45r17 the Sri tyres have some tread so use those up first I thought and then put my tyres on after is this possible ? Thanks in advance!!!!!

An Sri what? ::)

Wheels might bolt on, but offset is almost certainly wrong and will probably rub once the correct, Omega sized, tyres are fitted.

If I didn't swap tyres would that be ok?

No. It will handle differently and the speedo will be well off...

Not to mention that using tyres which aren't type approved will invalidate your insurance.

All assuming they don't rub...

Thanks for that invaluable info,only asking as I'd seen them fitted as I thought on a photo but happy to stick with originals and maybe upgrade to the newer rims one day  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10216508242691418&set=gm.10157395901841015&type=3&eid=ARDyTNOyjXAZytyMMyS8SU3-ADOeVAks-tZ1Ss4-BmLUZdBwfKfj_lQczw5lRO4wItlnvrL_sWAcNuqw&ifg=1

what offset are they and what offset does a standard omega have ?  RWD and FWD vauxhalls used to have significant offset differences, which would make the handling weird.

Omega offset depends on wheel width... Numbers below are off memory, but confident that they are accurate :y

iirc, 16" are 6.5J ET38 225/55/16
17" are 7.5J ET35 235/45/17
18" are 8J ET30 235/40/18 (fronts) and 9J ET30 245/35/18 (rears)(Sportstars)/8.5J ET33 245/40/18(Stila)

All the Astra/Vectra stuff is ET4*.

There will be people who have successfully fitted XYZ wheels on an Omega, but what works on one car won't likely work following suspension work or with different geometry/parts. Oh, and using spacers is a dangerous bodge.

Basically, either fit the correct wheels or aftermarket with the correct offset for the rim width.
