Bit long winded this, but for those who are interested in the ins and outs of insurance:
Our current policies end at midnight tonight. I am a named driver on wife's insurance and vice versa. When we (I) bought the policies with AA , I declared that neither of us had had any claims within the last five years, which has obviously now changed. The current insurer, LV, is dealing with the claim, but the new insurer needs to know about it.
AA got back to wife today, saying there would be a additional premium of £47, which we paid and received an updated policy by email. Tonight I realised that my named driver, her, had made a claim, and this was not declared on the policy. So I rang them.....to be told that my premium would increase by nearly £80!
She claimed, got an increase of £47, I have no claims and got an increase of £80.
I have told the call handlers supervisor that I am not happy and he is referring it to the underwriters. Twa Basta Naughty people.

along with your house insurance :(
house value on the other hand will drop due to the actions of one fu**wit upping the crime figures for your area / postcode
meanwhile, said pyromaniac will be blissfully unaware , probably getting free housing and enough money for all the booze,drugs,lighters and pot noodles his heart desires >:(

Ah, yes, thanks for that, Dave. You have reminded me that our new home insurance policy starts in two days and I also declared no claims on that. I've run out of Vaseline. :(

It says any claim for loss, and it's pointless trying to convince yourself that it only means on your home insurance, it means what it says.

ok,they will f**k you good and proper next year when the crime stats say you live in a high risk area :(
but your not making a claim on home insurance
unless the question asks any claim on any insurance policy ???

Insurers are in the business of managing risk. Until your claim is settled they cannot assess & manage your risk. This all seems very reasonable to me, where in comparison with travel insurance, which is my specialist area, where I'm a compliance primary technology supplier to a multi-million pound big player insurance broker, if you are under a medical investigation & until the results are known you will not get cover as they cannot access the claims risk. This even applies to ultra high risk policies which only special insurers handle. with typically terminal cancer cruise policies I've seen the premiums over £4k, but this is with diagnosed cases.

You are correct, Dave, our motor insurance claim will make no difference to our home insurance premium. But.......they said I was correct to call them as, in the event of a claim, the insurer can see a note on the policy saying that they have been informed of a previous insurance claim.

You are correct, Dave, our motor insurance claim will make no difference to our home insurance premium. But.......they said I was correct to call them as, in the event of a claim, the insurer can see a note on the policy saying that they have been informed of a previous insurance claim.

All cases & insurance types are different, but it is an insight into how insureurs work with risk management, where they are effectively taking a punt on the premium pot being higher than the total claims value.

Interesting. My case was similar but treated totally differently:
I was the main driver for both the Yeti and the Volvo, SWMBO is named driver on the yeti. July 2017 she was driving the yeti when it was side-swiped by some little toe-rag who failed to stop - so went in as an 'at fault' claim (close to £3k worth iirc) ::). We renewed the yeti policy with the same insurer that had handled the claim, took an uplift in premium of around £50.
When I came to renew the volvo, I explained that my named driver had had to make a claim, but technically it was my policy. Axa's response was that they considered the person making the claim rather than the policy, so as long as I didn't name my wife on the Volvo policy, there was no uplift in premium.
All rather odd, as it always is, with insurers.
