My driving licence expired yesterday and despite getting the reminder last month to renew it I forgot. ::) :(
I remembered on Sunday and did an online renewal where they use your passport photo, nevertheless as last time it took about 3 weeks to arrive I've been expecting to be walking for a while. :-\
I went away on Sunday night, got home yesterday evening to find my shiney new driving licence on the mat! :)
Good service DVLA! :y

I've always found them to be efficient, except when they haven't been. ;D

I had exactly the same experience as you recently (although I didn't let it expire first :P ).
Thought I'd try and see if the new way of renewing would work.
Couple of days later it appeared through the post box, like magic.
If you're like me and have a 3 year medical license it will very much depend on your answers to the questions and whether they feel the need to contact your specialist (Diabetes Dr for me). I can see that slowing it down severely. ::) :-[ ::)

Nov 2021 is my next renewal date, but it will only be valid for 18 months :(

Mine lasts till Jan 2032 :-*

I think Mr Beanz comes from an era before the driving test..... ;) :)
-
Yep......no driving test prior to 1935. :)

i am 6mths into my second over 70,s which is a 3 yearly event, one thing that has changed is what i am allowed to drive. certain stuff is now missing . is that a norm.

they're good at deleting extra entitlements that you've paid for, like HGV or motorcycle.
When you complain, they check on the computer and argue that you don't have them.
It's essential to keep a photo or photocopy of your old licence when you send it off.

It is a norm if you have a health condition or do not apply for separate categories and agree to additional medical checks. However, it still didn't stop a 77 year old bus driver killing 2 people when his medical condition did not stop him driving buses although his employer had noted problems with him! So perhaps it is possible to drive large vehicles even with a serious medical condition!
I am a diabetic on insulin, so without additional medical checks I can no longer drive vehicles over Luton van size, so no longer 7.5 ton vans,. But I personally agree with that as it is a policy that should potentially save lives :y

I have found the DVLA (and the passport office) to be either exceedingly quick for a civil service department or really slow. No middle ground...

Bought some fuses. I was looking through my spares, didn't have any 40A ones (mainly because they aint used on Omegas (and Zaffy takes the mini fuses)), and the Pussy takes loads of 40A ones.
Egay, and turned up in a couple of days :)
Adjusted the headlights for continental driving last week. Bit of a ballache on the Pussy (or to quote the glovebox manual, "take it to a dealer", which is repeated on most Jag forums), not a 30s job like the Omega.
Bought some numberplate bulbs - they only user changeable bulbs on the car's exterior lighting. Dug out the triangles, the Hi-Viz stuff, out of date disposable breathalysers, and fitted the euro plates (ebay, also arrive within a couple of days).
Pondering whether or not to change the oil now, or in a thousand miles or so. Its done about 3k.

I've my medical this year, my doctor wants £180, I will go to a Dr that advertising in MK £50. Takes 10minutes to do,.. just a paperwork exercise, pee in a bottle, read the eye chart, answer the questions, Dr signs, send off, HGV for another 5 years.

When my HGV entitlements expired in 2014, my Dr wanted £220 for the medical so I didn't bother and let it go. ::)
My new licence dosn't even show that my HGV entitlements have expired. :-\

Your entitlement stays u till the expiry date, you can't drive unless you've got a dqc card, any ways.

I was always a part timer anyway, and what with digi cards and having to get the CPC etc it started to get too much hassle. :-\
Shame as it was a handy thing to have. :y
