Title: Fuel Tank Rust
Post by: TestOmega on 07 October 2019, 08:43:30
I have the Omega X30XE Saloon equivalent (Cadillac Catera 2001). I noticed quite a bit of rust on the underbody of the fuel/petrol tank. Are these tank internally plastic shell or it is all metal? Could it rust through and start leaking? I am not a mechanic and at times am quite novice on these issues.

Regards.

Tanks are plastic, tank straps corrode though!

Thank you for the fast answer. I am at peace.

I will look into the straps and other items and inspect.

Regards.

UK ones are plastic, as said. Irmscher kitted cars have a metal cover to protect the tank. Not sure what is fitted to US cars.

You mean the heat shield which sits between the tank and cross pipe from back box to right hand exit on the split tailpipe option ;)

Indeed. And these can show signs of corrosion.  It pretty much covers the whole base of the tank on mine. Or at least it would if I ever bothered fitting it ;D

The estate version is only about 8" deep, but the tank on the saloon is a different shape and probably sits a bit further aft, so warrants the extra ;)

Neither the saloon or estate warrant it.
