Title: High Idle- both banks running lean- vacuum leak fuel pressure regulator valve?
Post by: kman on 03 November 2019, 11:17:52
Good Morning from Chilly Connecticut.
My 01 cadillac catera has a vacuum leak coming from under the plenum, back towards the firewall.  Symptoms are: loud vacuum leak sound, 2 error codes (lean on both banks), and and high idle, even when warmed up. If I carefully direct carb spray (not easy cause plenum in the way) at the fuel pressure regulator valve, it raises engine revs.  there are no fuel leaks at the valve, and the vacuum line connected to it is not cracked or disconnected.

Does this sound like a faulty fuel pressure regulator valve, or should I be looking/testing something else?

Split breather hose :y

They sit just behind the FPR and would easily inhale any spray...

Yes, have a look at the bigger bore 'Y' hose that connects the two outside ports of the breather bridge to the breather box at the back of the engine. The base of the hose can split under the hose clip. And the hose is hard to find, so be careful with it.

PITA to reach, you probably will need to remove the wiper arms and motor mechanism.
