Hello all, my Miggy was recently rear ended in a car park, the driver thankfully left their details. The damage is a broken rear light cluster and the bumper is hanging off with a 'penny sized' dent just below the boot lid. My insurance company have written the car off and offered me £700. Not sure what the salvage/buy back price would be ? Has any one had this kind off experience -how much am I likely to be able to buy the car back for? I have already turned down the £700, but perhaps I should accept and hope for a really low buy back price. The quotation for repairs at the garage was £800+ for just the parts, I would of course source used parts... Any thoughts ?? :-/

Take the cash, there are plenty of good omegas out there for sale similar to yours for that money or less :y

You were right to turn down the first offer.
I wrote off my '95 Elite last year, held out & got £1200 for it!

My car is low mileage 74000, I don't think I could find similar for £700? :-/

The damage sounds relatively minor.
If you can hold out for a good payout from the insurance company and buy the car back cheaply ,you could have a positive outcome. good luck :y :y

Yep, trawl autotrader etc for similar age cars etc and pass the prices to the insurance company.
The general rule is that they take this piss on the first two offers :y

Dig your heels in for a better cash settlement and grab it with both hands. Buy the car back and you'll be able to repair it economically, probably with something left for more goodies.

If you choose to claim through an insurance company, whether yours or the 3rd Party's, then not all insurers will allow you to buy the salvage back from them - some won't, in order to thwart "ringers".
If you do indeed buy it back, it will be logged as a category C total loss.

I think the "add a few hundred" was a bit of an understatment ::)
