I know they rusted faster than they wen, but god do they sound nice :D

Once drove a 2.6, and was taken out in a 3.5. The 3.5 was wicked, would have been arround 1986/7
-
Same colour as the one I had, though mine wasn't a Vitesse :'(

It's called 'Character'

A 24year old Rover with no rust ?. OK, he may have kept the outside in good nick, but how about the inside of the sills and the various box sections ?. My Dad had one, eh a few years ago !, bore a remarkable resemblance to something Italian ?.

I wanted one of these 20 years ago, but on reflection i think the earlier P5 (3.5 - v8) was a better bet.
The P5 had easily replaceable wings, (bolt on all round) and was as fast - if kept in tune - as a golf gti of it's day. Problem was keeping the distributors and carbs (yes carb) in sync if i re-call. could go off tune quite quickly.
But lovely leather seats, proper reserve tank (with a switch) and looked good too!
ok not so much cudos as a jag, but these were police persuit "vehicles" at the time!

Think you mean the P6B the P5 was never fast with either engine. ::)

I used to love those, still think they look nice now actually....
Like said I too think they have character :y
-
The S(A)D1 could have been a good car.....if they had bothered to put a proper suspension setup on it, particularly the rear!
-
my old dad had one of the first SD1 .It was 1976 on a P plate.
Sounded epic, looked great, fell apart. :y :y
-
1984 car with only 79187 on the clock!!! Remarkable condition from the photos.
Unfortunately don't think it will go for nearly £4K :o

Wrong, so very wrong.
Owned countless SD1's & never had any bother with any off them.
2.4SDTurbo. 2.6. MKI & MKII V8's.
Until you experienced, don't judge

I had a Midas Gold 3500 from 1979, this had the Rimmer Bros straight through stainless steel exhaust. It sounded MEGA, V8 cry at full volume. Mechanically it was great but the bodywork was just like many other 70's cars... water soluble!
Then bought a 3500 Vanden Plas (series 1) a rare car with connolly leather, air con, cruise control and a Digital tune stereo radio cassette which for 1981 was a pretty impressive spec list! This was a great car and far from rusty, def no worse than any other early 80's car but with that V8 soundtrack it was a wonderful vehicle. It even returned around 26 to 28mpg on a run.
Loved the cars and the engines, what a car!
-
I used to have a 2.3 SD1.......bought it £400..
Took me 2 weeks to destroy the engine ::) ;D

You need to try harder, anyway I bet there are no S6 SD1s left now, I expect they are all V8 built like that or not.

Nice SD1. But prefer the P6 3500. More classy :-* :-*
-
I nearly bought one of those in 1987, same colour to. But in the end opted for a mint condition XR4i due to the insurance cost.
I don't think you can beat the sound of a V8, i've had three P6s on H, K & N Regs.
My Brother had the best one though, a N reg. 3500S(manual with P/S and spare on the boot)in white with a black roof, luvly jubbly.

oops corrected again, yep the P6 (too many beers and memory is shot).
Wasn't the P5 the one with aluminium body panels? Seem to re-call Roger Moore drove one in a film years ago about having an identical alter ego who took over his life!
-
In the late 80's I had a 1979 T Reg 2.3 SD1. Had a factory sunroof but no power steering, (think it was an option on 2.3 as my Dad's 2.6 was a year older and had PAS).
Were very comfortable cars :) but we both spent a fortune on them :(

Think the film was called "The man who haunted himself" :-/

nearly bought a v8 sd1 in 1986,changed my mind when i noticed the leaking water pump. bought my first 6 cylinder vauxhall (and my 1st auto) instead - a Viceroy. :)
