Title: Corsa Knocking Noise
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 28 December 2019, 19:12:32
Cadged a lift with a mate earlier in his 08 Corsa that has an awful knocking noise from the front end.  :o

My mate is not slightly mechanically minded and has been told that it's the steering column?  So I'm just wondering if this sounds right?   ???

By the noises as we went over the bumps it could be any of a number of things, but I was wondering if a noisy steering column is a common Corsa thing?  :-\

Drop links.  ???

Yes, it sounded more like a suspension issue to me, but I've no experience with Corsas...  :-\

the steering column would be one of the last things to check  :o
anti roll bar drop links and bushes, broken coil springs are common
pinch bolts on the struts ,strut top mounts,
loose parts about to fall off ,particularly if it's been chaved up   ;D
he should get someone to check it as a matter of urgency !

He says he's had a mobile guy he uses look at it, and the steering column was the diagnoses.  :-\

It's not something I've heard of before hence my enquiry. Now you mention it though I bet it's a broken spring, as it was very noisy going over bumps and potholes.  :o

My daughter's had a Corsa C and still has a D and the only clonking I've known was the drop links. Never known the steering to give any issues on either of hers but as drop links are so cheap it's worth him changing them anyway to eliminate them.  As Dave said, he could have it checked for any other faults while it's got a jack under it.  :y

I don't know to what extent the car was examined to be honest....  :-\

If the "mobile guy" knew anything about cars, and it was the steering column loose .broken mounts etc ,he'd have advised to stop using the car immediately

by "mobile guy" perhaps he's someone who fits new screens to Iphones etc  ;D

I make sure mine are in tip top condition by having a service and MOT done anally annually. 😁

Funnily enough he doesn't live far from you and there might be a cheap Corsa needing a pair of droplinks available soon....  ::)  ;D

If it's a regular knocking it could be a loose wheel. When road testing Jonny's Astra after a cam cover change all seemed well apart from a knocking noise at the front - he had recently changed a wheel.
