Title: How accurate is the Trip Computer?

I reset My computer before I left work which is a 35 mile trip home. Half and half duel carrageway and single. Averaged 35.3 mpg and average speed was 54. I set cruise to 55 on single carrageway and 68 on Duel.....!

Probably more accurate than the speedo.

I set the speeds using my sat nav..Speedo a bit out yes... ;)

Once put my Carlton in cruise on the Motorway and reset the computer, was 5 mph faster on the speedo. :-/

Accurate to a degree but interesting to use. 2.5 manuals are known to be good on fuel given their size/weight etc. Sitting @ 70 with cruise on will show higher mpg on instant than driving it yourself. I've spent 2 happy years driving a 2.5 manual & high 30's are achievable on a gentle run. Learning the 3.0 manual now, not much differnce so far, seems as good on a run due to the gearing ie 75/80mph @ 3000rpm.
   Can't comment on autos but i imagine you subtract 2 or 3 mpg. :y

Sure there is something wrong with my trip computer it always seems to under read.
Especially when I push that pedal on the right all the way to the floor and hold it there.............strange that. :-/ :-/ :-/

don't know about the speedo but the mpg on my previous 2.0 was 10% optimistic. Using the fiil to the brim and zero the trip meter method I got 41mpg, fuel computer said 44.8 average, that was on a long motorway journey, cruising at 65 ish.

Speedos are configured to be ever so slightly optimistic, normally around 1mph at 30, to around 2mph around 60.

Portable satnav speedos are not hugely accurate due to the way they work out points on road

If it is average speed you are remarking on, remember you were starting (I assume ;)) from a standstill, probably going round a few roundabouts and finally coming to a halt - unless you reset it once you were on the motorway :-?
