I used to work for the BBC. I was just an anonymous face that worked in the offices, I should add. I never actually spoke to them. So when it came to spotting celebs it was quite easy ....either in the corridors, the BBC canteen or BBC club.
Donald Pleasence, Nerys Hughes, Dave Lee Travis, Eartha Kit, Daley Thompson, Tony Blackburn, The Jam, to name but a few......
I would never ask for an autograph, I didn't want to invade their space, which such trivia, and it probably would have been frowned on.
I wonder if anyone else has either met or spotted anyone famous, and if they were nice, or awful?. :-* :-* :-*

Saw both in plane boarding queues.

I saw the Queeen and took her pic one year as she arrived for her anual holiday in Aberdeen one year.
Sat in a resteraunt one night on a table next to Peter Elliott and some famous body builder.
One night (2am) my ex girlfiend had Duncan Norvell say to her, some people think that I look like Duncan Norvell, she turned round and said she thought he was cuter and gesturing he he was a tosser as she walked back to the car. I reckon it was him, big white falsh merc and private plate.
Seen Duggie Brown and his Sister who played Ivy Tilsley in Coronation street (Both from Rotherham)
Also sat next to a wrestler Steve Logan all the way from Doncaster to Aberdeen on the train.
So no one really special in my case. ;D ;D :y

Seen Chris Tarrant shopping, met and chatted to David Sheperd, met a few musicians. Seen Ian Botham walking.
However what is famous? I have met some people well known in their field but unknown to a lot of people.
My dad years ago worked at a BMW dealer, he met David Lawrence (cricketer), the Uncle of an England Rugby player was a cleaner and he also met Nigel Mansell

Saw Rodney Bewes (Bob Ferris from the Likely Lads) at a petrol station in Corwall once while on holiday. We were down near The Lizard, I believe he lives in Cornwall. :-/

Roman Abramovich at the o2 earlier this year.
Had a drink and a chat with ronan Keating at Newmarket a couple of years ago.
Got an autograph from Rory gallagher and actually touched his very famous stratocaster when I was about 14.
lots of F1 and bike racers at goodwood 4 years ago.
Also met Bob Champion the same day as Ronan Keating, both seemed like genuinely nice blokes, Ronan cant sing though.
Lastly ,Liz Hobbs,ex water skiing champion,who is married to Fraser Hines, didnt like her at all.

Oh I used to work with someone who lodged rather than buy or rent and he stayed with an MP - picture of the then cabinet in the loo, complete with Maggie.

Met Robert Stevens a little known actor when i was working for a removal firm in the early eighties.
We actually moved John Hurt from Ascot Under Wychwood to some where in London, just after his wife died from a horse riding accident.
Never met John, because he was doing some filming :(

No one major I am afraid.
Used to be a milkman many years ago, and delivered milk to Gabrielle Drake (WHO YOU ASK? ) She is most famous for being in UFO wearing a purple wig, and later on took over from that big ginger lezzer...(name evades me), to run the Crossroads Motel. She was extremely attractive, and diminutive in stature. Sorry that's the best I can do.................apart from when I met Nelson Mandela, George Bush, Tony Blair at the local chip shop..........Elvis was there too! ;D ;D ;D ;D

He tried joining a fishing syndicate my late father was a member of...came down too have a look at the lake (tosser tarrant is a carp man same as my dad) and they refused him membership.
No one liked him due too constantly bigging himself up.... ;D ;D ;D

have met a few famous faces, Sir Cliff Richard at the wine fair at Excel who has a vineyard in Portugal & we spent the rest of the afternoon drinking his wine, dont remember much else from that day neither does he, but he loves a good sound system in a car. Most of the Royals, but Fred Dibnah was one of the best ;)

Only "celeb" of sorts were Debbie Magee (sp) and that little magician Paul Daniels, oh and Sooty ( or the guy who now sticks his hand up his bum!). Apart from that a few titled tofs (Lord Bath, Earl of Devon and the odd Baronet and Knight) ... oh, used to live a few houses away from Ian Botham in his Somerset days. Had a couple of coffees with Anthony Adolph --- but no-one will know him ::)

When I used to do a proper job, I have fixed the phones of Rowan Atkinson (nice bloke), David Jason (decent), DLT (bit of a idiot, but good tipper :y), some old silver screen actress who's stage name escapes me (lovely lady), the big bird off Birds of a Feather (nice lady).
On the tube, I bumped into the greek bloke from London's Burning, exchanged pleasantries, then watched as the bloke stood behind him dribbled down his coat ;D

As e teenage golf caddie @ the W. Sx. course i saw Sean Connery & Cliff Michlemore (Holiday progs) Saw Bob Hoskins buy his papers from Lewes Railway stn. when was cabbing. Lastly run out of time so spent the night in the truck in Milton Keynes a few years back, parked up, walked to supermarket for the basics & saw Kevin Whatley (Auf Wiedersien Pet/Morse) looking at vegetables! Oh yes, forgotten about that, bumped in to John Craven in a pub in Wiggington. It was before he started doing countryfile, and I didn't reconise him with siilver hair until he spoke ;D

met a few so called celebs when i worked on the doors, been on the beer with metallica,boy george, heater small(M people),sean edwards rugby player, also did personal security for timmy mallet....what a nob. i told him if he swung his mallet near me again id stick it up his arse ;D. met tiff nedell when he did rally GB a few years ago, seemed ok.

Went to school with Simon Ward - remember watching him in all the school plays!
In the 60s met all of the top groups - Beatles, Stones, Who, Animals, Spencer Davis, Chuck Berry, Yardbirds and lots of others.

I`ve met jasper carrot i sat in his lotus carlton after returning his lost luggage from heathrow a good few years back....i`ve set up clinton morrisons tv equipment when he was at the blues and nearly knocked pat from east enders over in westminster when i was a courier .....so nobody really famous.... ::) ::) Oh and i met the most famous person on this forum....LOO-KNEE at the shifnal cambelt party..... ;D ;D ;D

When I was at school, my mates brother was best buddies with Fish from Marillion. He was a idiot.
Spent a few hours last Christmas Day with a certain Touring Car driver - mate of my brother's.

I used to deliver Norman Wisdoms paper (Daily Mail i think) & about 13 yrs. old in West Chiltington W. Sx (Parents still there). Never met him but his house backed onto the rec. & his son Nicky used to come out & plat footy/cricket with us. I'd forgotten that one! :y

Wow! It's all flooding back now. Many years ago i had 6 month fun fling with a well to do Horsey girl who i should'nt name but she was lovely. Her Dad knew Marty Wilde, & the daughter in question dumped me to marry his bass player (Eddie?). They divorced & have a daughter. We still speak or text occasionally. 8-)

The original singer started a band called Killers and a friend became the lead guitarist until sacked for his image (short and a bit fat), then Dianno tried to get him involved again for another album but he didn't bother - think my friend was in Lionsheart next.

Spent a few hours last Christmas Day with a certain Touring Car driver - mate of my brother's.
I thought he was a bit of a nob too - saw them many years ago - not a bad band but seen a lot better, didn't chase autographs or anything - they were only interested in chatting up girls after.
Most of the musicians I knew were borderline famous

their studio was in knebworth at one stage. think its a curtain shop now. i remember going to party hosted by kim wildes sister, not that i knew it at the time, and half way through all the lights go on and the sound off and theres kim wilde in the middle of the room screaming at everyone to 'get the fk out of this house now'. quite surreal after downing a few bevvies...
that isnt my 'spotting famous people' contribution as such but couldnt help but think of the occasion reading jimmas post hehehe

was at a 'team building' exercise in the Forest of Dean some years ago, in the hotel Richard Burns (RIP :'() & Juha Kankkunen were going out for a pre- RAC rally shakedown so got both their autographs.

He used to own a BMW 750iL and he bought it from the garage my dad used to work at, when I saw the car it was in a filling station being driven by Mike Teagues uncle.
I know the reg number too!
Best car I saw there was a turbo 535 with around 700bhp when in full tune

Met snooker players Cliff Thorburn and Steve Davis years ago. Steve Davis is good company and very funny. Also about the same time met Hurricane Higgins. He was a boyhood friend of a mate of mine in Belfast. He played at an exhibition match here in Luton at a local snooker club. He was awsome. Played 15 games that evening. He wouldn't stop until he had made a hundred break. Went out with him and my mate afterwards to a nightclub. He got thrown out after an hour for being drunk and disorderly. Will always remember the snooker he played that night though.

Met Kelly Holmes in physical training in York (i think) when i was in the army, course she wernt famous back then (came out in 90 so yeah)
Then about 12 ywars ago when working at HSS as a delivery driver i saw the bloke who plays Phil Mitchell on Eastenders in the shop (cant remember how long ago that was actually, but atleast 11 years)

I pick up Susan George and Simon MacCorkindale plus Howard Jones from time to time and about 4 years ago Nigel benn got in the car and needed the court ::) got stopped on the M5 for going a tad to fast ;D

i have met sir Alec Issisgonis and John Cooper, both of them were huge heros of mine back in my Mini days.
Cooper was so larger than life, and had some great stories, Issisgonis was a very quiet man who took the whole 'i designed the mini and it has a huge fanbase' as a humble thing, to him it was another car

Had to drive Mark McManus (Taggart or Skippy the kangaroo's uncle, depending on your age) into open a local Fete in a panda car with lights and sirens on, once upon a time.
Nice chap, pity he used malt for breakfast mouthwash.....

ran the top gear members bar at silverstone in 94 for the f1 gp, drank with jeremy clarkson. met nigel mansell, alan jones, james hunt at donnington years ago. tiff needle at burton tyre centre. anthony worrel thompson & lloyd grossman at bass museum & more recently the late fred dibnah ( steeplejack ) at many a steam rally & bar.

Time for me to roll out my Omega claim to fame again ;D! Previous owner of my Miggy was Ray Reardon who (not sure if on purpose?) left a signed photo in the glove box. Met him at main dealer when he was passing and saw his old car in for service. At time he was driving a Mustang! Not many celebs in deepest Devon but was in pub in Totnes with a very tipsy James May last year. Once chatted to Tom O'Connor at Heathrow duty free while we both tried to find the cheapest Whiskey. Marty Wilde seems to get about as I bumped in to him at either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport few years back.

I used to work in the operating theatres of a private hospital that looked after the Liverpool team, met Grobbelar, Rush , Dalglish, Barnes, Scales, Rob Jones was a great guy but some others were thingys. I had to pull Stig Bjornebies broken leg straight while a cast was put on,i will never forget the screams!! Im an Everton fan BTW
Duke of Westminster, who was opening a detox unit I worked at, really nice chap as it happens.
Frank Bough at the Majestic hotel in Harrogate, just after his career fell apart for getting S&M in a dungeon ;D I was bladdered and got an autograph, his son looked like he wanted to kill me.

Sailing in Ireland few years ago doing Cork week and met Roy Walker in a pub, also met Ben Ainslie the same week.
London Boat show saw Suzie Perry and Phillippa Forrester, now that was a sandwich i wouldn't mind being in!! :D
1995 British GP had VIP tickets thanks to a friend who was doing work for Nokia and they sponsered Tyrell Yamaha at the time so met Mikka Salo, and quite literally bumped into Ron Dennis :)
Other than being next to Jimmy Hill in a queue for customs at Dover i generally miss 'celebs' mainly because i don't recognise people!!

During my early days in security I got to look after alot of DJ's and few of the "acts" doing the rounds, that was during the late 90's
Though the most enjoable from a works point of few Emma Bunton (SP?)
Radio one was doing a open air jobbie at Carnarvon Catsle - I was head of Security at the Celtic royal at the time where most of the acts and BBC where staying and using as a temp OP's center - it was a night mare, as the BBC and most of the acts had there own security, but no one was taking over my manor :)
Besides, its look great added the play list to my CV :)

Gillian Taylforth and her old man Geoff Knights quite often drink in my local pub. She used to play Kathy Beale in Eastenders, but I think she's better remembered for certain antics parked up in a layby in a Range Rover!! ::) ;D She's actually really friendly and a good laugh.
Also met Gazza in a shop in my town some years ago when he was still a top footballer. My sons were only kids then and he gave them a quid each for some sweets.
Used to see Page 3 Linda Lusardi from time to time in Sainsbury's and she still looks hot. :y

Kate Middleton comes from the next village. Everytime I see a military chopper I tell the mrs that its Wills just dropping in for a cuppa :y
