Title: Android Head Unit
Post by: dave.h on 28 March 2020, 22:47:37
Hi all

I have the CDR2005 in my 2000 2.5V6.

Has anyone fitted a modern Android Unit and if so what's the best one?

Cheers

As long, as you haven't got the Bose system, fit what you want.

Yes I have fitted several such units from Eonon
https://www.eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/2-Din-GPS-Navigation.html

They can also use the steering wheel controls, there is an app with the unit that let you set up what the buttons on the steering wheel should do on the unit.

If your car has navigation control you can use the original GPS-antenna but you need a cable adapter for that, see this:

They also have Bluetooth to give you handsfree.

To give more room for the cables I have cut the units cable and the Omega radio adapter cables and soldered them back together. The space behind is limited.

I replaced the original Bose headunit because the CD player barely worked, the radio reception was erratic and 2 of the speakers were blown.

I bought an Android double-DIN headunit off Ebay to replace it and the Tom Tom that wouldn't charge.

I also bought four new speakers to go in the doors, and replace the knackered ones.

I then ran new speaker wiring from the new HU down the kick-panels and along the sills, splicing it into the original wiring near the door looms.

Disconected the Bose amp finished the job, having gained handsfree connectivity, parking and dashcams, sat nav, and all the audio functions in one neat unit.

The one I bought didn't include a cage, so a lot of dismantling of the console and some ingenuity was required to mount the HU. I finished it off with a Vauxhall specific trim bought from Halfords.
