An American who survived Covid after many days in ICU on a ventilator received a 181 page itemised hospital bill for his treatment which came to $1,122,501.04 :o His insurance picked up most of the tab and the rest came from the US government assistance programme.
-
I wonder if people would respect and appreciate the NHS a bit more if they received an itemised account of their treatment costs. :-\
Probably not! ::) ;D

There was a programme on TV last year which showed a pregnant African woman who was turned away from the USA after landing there because of her babies imminent birth, she then got a flight to the UK was fully looked after at a London hospital I believe she had twins who had complications of some kind. After several weeks stay there she was presented with a bill of several thousand pounds to which she smiled & said " God bless England" Not one penny was ever paid to the NHS.😡

Borderforce turn them around at immigration and rightly so.

I would enjoy picking through one of those and correcting all the figures to something resembling the real commercial world most of us have to live in. Would it make me respect it more. No chance. I would still want to shut it down, and start again from scratch.

I heard on the news that this super doper wonderdrug that has a 1:8 success rate against the sniffle thing, but is claimed to be the saviour, is around £5 per treatment in the UK, and much cheaper in the developing world.
That in itself shows how oppsed up it all is, and I'm surprised the BBC slipped that fact in.

Possibly because the NHS buys the branded drug from the original manufacturer in Europe or North America, whereas everyone else buys the generic version from somewhere like India. :-\

Shouldn't have to now, it's been available for years and years, and I thought the original manufacturers lost their exclusivities after so long.
Warning: I may be wrong, it happens now and again ;D

I suspect the truth is nearer the utter ineptness of the NHS buyers. Along with the rest of the suits there.

Probably. ::)
We might all be right. If there is a cheap generic version from somewhere like India or the Philippines, the NHS procurement bods would keep buying XYZ brand from Texas, Toronto or Toledo because that is where they've always got it from. :)
-
I just wanted to punch the tellybox yesterday when that tw@@t from the Sun asked when it was going to be available.
His face was a proper picture when the Medical chap said it's been available for sixty years and the prescribing Doctor could walk across the corridor and get it from the pharmacy ;D
-
With the average age of posters on here, it's a wonder there aren't more reports of actual telly smashing events.

True, but replacing the telly is more hassle than the short lived satisfaction of punching it...
And being of a certain vintage, we're old enough to think shit through ;D

Why wouldnt they ? Its not their money, and they arent accountable to anyone. They are all god like superheroes after all. ::)

Yeah, maybe on the frontline. Come down to everyday local services like GPs and things are as dire as they've always been. I had to get past the gatekeeper on reception today to book a five minute phone call from a locum GP. He'll ring anytime from 9:30 till 5, she said, like it was normal.
-
Having had a lot of experience of the frontline over the last 20 years, Im afraid my experiences have shown me that caring heroic people are few and far between, even there.
I wish I thought differently, because its very controversial in the present climate, but Ive seen and heard, what Ive seen and heard and media driven national hand clapping isnt going to erase any of it.

I thought it was driven by the 5G Mobile networks to hide the switching on of the corona injecting cellular masts ;D

I just wanted to punch the tellybox yesterday
I had the same feelings watching the news, about the <whatever I'm allowed to call the gentleman of African origins> who was shot by the copper.
It seems, even by the BBC's admission, that:
Black bloke found pissed and asleep behind the wheel in his car by 2 white plod
Suspecting some substance abuse, they ask him to do that walk test and a breath test, both of which he failed
They ask him to walk back to a nearby relative, and not to drive
He refuses, so they go to take him into custody
He then struggles, nicks one of their tasers and runs
He then turns back (whilst still running away) and points the taser at one of plod
Plod immediately, possibly instinctively, lets off a round
And that, in the current climate, apparently is a reason to slap a murder charge onto plod. Racism? I bet a similar outcome would have happened if it was anyone of any colour, but only makes the news because there is an agenda around the whole racism thing currently.
-
Fortunately, I managed to turn off the telly before I threw the remote through the screen.
-
They shot him three times which is arguably two more than necessary, especially as they tased him three times first.
Clearly wasn't thinking straight to think that grabbing a taser and running away was a good idea.

How straight would you think after taking drugs and drinking booze? ;D

Clearly wasn't thinking straight to think that grabbing a taser and running away was a good idea.
And then put the boot in at the end, for good measure ;D
But the video the beeb showed show the perp running, turning and pointing a (presumably taser) gun like object at the nearest copper, who appeared to let of 1 or 2 shots. I'd call that self defence TBH.
If that was me, I'd put the boot in as well, just at the thought of all the paperwork caused ;D
All this media coverage is going to make Western police targets, as everyone will know there will be memos going around the UK police force now saying not to arrest afro-carribean people, and those people can kick/spit/abuse/slash/shoot the police without fear of reprisal. The media will/are making out that UK/US police are evil. Whilst I'm sure some are bad apples, and some are racist, I suspect the vast majority are normal people like the rest of us, with a strong sense of right and wrong, and care not about skin colour, and treat everyone equally.

Would it be politically incorrect to black up before I go out on the rob? ;D

According to the BLM brigade, it will increase your chances of being arrested and convicted of the robbery.

Just wear a "Black lives matter" T shirt ,then you can smash what you like and steal what you like from shops etc :y

If them Police in America had turned a blind eye to the drink/drug driver asleep at the wheel, and he wiped out 5 innocent pedestrians (of any race)on his drive home , I doubt very much it would make news in the UK
My take on it ....
don't break the law ,
if you break the law ,expect to be arrested and thrown i a cell
expect to appear in court and be jailed or fined
if you resist arrest and run off ,expect to be tasered or shot
that applies what ever race, religion or sexuality you decide you are
the world has gone soft ,rules are there for a reason ::)
-
We don't have race relations in Barnsley.

Drunk in charge, and he was asleep, and parked. In a parking space.
Resisting and then grabbing a taser turned a misdemeanor into death.
It takes me a while to wake up properly, so I sympathise with the disorientation that may have made the bloke react poorly, but they gave him the opportunity to walk home. He declined and started being an arse... Escalation was inevitable.

if he was such a good family man then surely Celebrating a family birthday is best done with the actual family.
at home and not drinking to the extent you fall asleep (at the wheel of a car )
-
Like I said not the best choice, but better than driving home ;)

Just wear a "Black lives matter" T shirt
The implication of that is that brown lives don't matter. Nor yellow lives. Or white lives. So that itself is racist and divisive, thus illegal.
*ALL* lives matter*, irrespective of creed or colour. End of.
*worthwhile lives. Scum and wasters should be culled as early in life as possible.

I made that point on another thread , so not guilty your honour
If BLM wish to hold up the race card, it should not just be about "black" inequality
I have friends of many "colours" :)

I know a few bicyclist ,tree hungers who can't afford to eat meat :-\
from the internet.....
"Black is the absence of light. ... Some consider white to be a color, because white light comprises all hues on the visible light spectrum. And many do consider black to be a color, because you combine other pigments to create it on paper. But in a technical sense, black and white are not colors, they're shades"
-
Yep, black is the absence of colour and white is the combination of all colours. But, as we were talking about human complexions, no one is black and no one is white. More pink and brown.

For 41 minutes ... yup.. that long .. they talked to him, tested him, and there was absolutely no problem .. apparently he was "co-operative and almost jovial" .... then for reasons not explained anywhere .. they decided to hand cuff him ..... why, how, what force involved, where they physically hurting him ? ........ at which point it all went downhill .... and given the recent history of what happens to black folk in custody, I can understand his concern at the sudden "change" in the police approach....

"After pulling over his vehicle, the father-of-four appeared "slightly impaired, but his behaviour during this incident was almost jovial", Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said on Wednesday.
For over 40 minutes, video shows him complying with officers as he consented to a weapons search and provided them with his identification details.
However, as officers tried to handcuff him, he began struggling."
-
We weren't there to comment on what caused the escalation. Could have been a perception of a change in body language that isn't clear to the viewer. Could also have been in response to an instruction from their supervisors.
How many of us have responded to an instinct, nuance or 'feeling' even if it subsequently proved unfounded... ::)
Should he have struggled when they cuffed him (regardless of why they decided to do so)? Never a good idea. Ever. Regardless of circumstance/race.
Should he have grabbed the taser? Obviously not.
Should they have shot his three times with a semi automatic service pistol? Ideally not, but ultimately depends on how they were trained... personally, I would have thought a single round fired with consideration would have been more appropriate (at this point in the escalation).

And that bares no resemblance to the report yesterday, and the clip shown. I guess the beeb had realised he'd dropped a bollock and maybe told the truth for a minute, so have now retold it to make it more attractive to current hysterical viewpoints.
Certainly yesterdays clip clearly showed the chap failing the walk test and failing a breath test, and then refusing to walk home (well, to his sisters, nearby).
Sadly, the BBC sadly falls into that dangerous trap of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story, and inciting the population to rage to generate more great headlines.
