Title: A misprint surely?
Post by: BazaJT on 02 July 2020, 15:04:53
Read an article today that Jaguar Classic have brand new 3.8L[as fitted to S1 E-type XK 150 Mk IX Mk X etc]engine blocks for sale. Each comes with a 12mth warranty and a certificate of authenticity. The price quoted in the article is £14,340 each inc. VAT.Surely that kind of money for a bare engine block has to be a misprint doesn't it?

I just got quoted £636 for rear brake pads ( not pads and discs) from Jaguar.

Following Covid they have stopped the 3+ fixed price servicing.

There is a form of insanity going on with the motor trade at the moment. :-\

Looks like you'll have to be fitted up at Kwik Fit then!  ;D

Car dealers are the same spivs and wide boys they were forty years ago. The only difference being they don't look like 'Arfur' Daly and they occupy buildings with lots of glass and posh coffee, rather than a WW2 bombsite under the arches.

You're asking the person who has voluntarily purchased an RX8, a CLS with broken airmatic and a Signum :D

The RX8 was a present for Mrs Opti ....... The CLS 500 looked good but was a bit sluggish with just 306 BHP from the 'cooking V8. It was also extremely unreliable and cheaply screwed together.

The Signum on the other hand has been magnificent. :y

I don't know the exact year and model of your Jag M'lud, but the pads don't look expensive.  :)

 ....

Are you sure that wasn't a supply & fit price? Dealers (especially high end marques) tend to assume that the customer won't want to dirty their hands. Still stupidly expensive even if it is a fitted price

Maybe the price includes the cost of a couple of "ladies" to entertain Opti while the work is being done  :-\
they have an hourly rate ,just like the  mechanics parts fitters

Yes.....supply and fit. But for that money I would also want 2 weeks in Bermuda.

Kwik Fit initially quoted £85. But when I tried to book the price had increased to £115. They said £85 was a mistake. :-\

Probably have to go with them though.

£636 is just taking the piss. :-\

Kwik sh*t will demand you have a brake fluid change too  ;)
then a few other parts they "found broken"  :(
plus you will need 8 new tyres, a complete exhaust x 2  :P

then you will still have to pay a body-shop to paint the bumper scuffs ,dents and scratches etc acquired in Kwik sh*t's care  :-X

Agreed. MB only quoted £550(ish) for both pads & discs for the front of my ML .... which of course I declined.  :y

At £636 they must have been quoting for gold plated pads!  :)

Kwik Fitups price of £115 on the other hand must have been for pads made of soft French cheese made in China!  ::)  ;D

Did you get a price from the Jag indys?  ???  Probably worth getting to know one of them if your service plan has finished.  ;)

But the discs are still on the car over 12 months later .... they no where near the end of their life. I just replaced the pads. 'You need new discs & pads Sir' seems to be a common cry from MB.

Yes....my car has only covered 19000 miles so the disc(s) are fine.

The service guy said no discounts in the future because they need to make back the money lost during lockdown.

Not sure that will fly as a business plan.

He should be sacked for saying that  >:(

Its not JLR recovering obviously, its the dealership (fixed price servicing is optional to the dealer)

I think the part code is C2D3792  for the 320mm rear discs, would need chassis number to confirm. (same as XKR).

Wear sensor is C2D2976.

Worth shopping around for parts and finding somebody to fit
