Title: MOT Question
Post by: Elite Pete on 30 August 2008, 15:50:09
If a car has two seats and the passenger seat and seatbelt is removed will the car pass an MOT?

TIA :)

If you asked that question whilst watching The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy the answer would be 47. :-* :-*
If not then I think it should pass. One seat with one seatbelt.

A grey area as the specs state that each relevant seat must have a belt....no seat and you might get away with it

Thought the answer should be 42 :-/

I am guessing here. If the car was designed to have two seats and therefore two seatbelts it may not pass.
Unless it is old enough not to have needed seat belts when new.
Because the situation is ambiguous some MOT stations may pass it and others not. Good luck. :y :y

My understanding is that, in any MOT, if its fitted, it has to work, be that a seat or a headlamp.

If removed, they are not there abd thus cannot be tested and a pass should be issued.

Its not the first time that I have seen a road legal rally car with only a driver/observer seat, all others having been removed.....   ;)

Should pass... Although he should advise that there was no passenger seat fitted at time of test!

Incidentally, this is a common way of getting a car with dodgy rear belts through the test... Just fold the seats down and they shouldn't be tested!

Will pass

The old corsa on one mot just had 1 bucket and harness, passenger bucket was removed along with the harness, and well, there were no rear seats...

Passed fine :)

42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything. 47 is the answer to whether a car with only one seat needs two seat belts to pass an MOT. I thought that was obvious.  ;D ;D ;D

All our parcel delivery vans had the passenger seat removed and passed mot no problems.

Jolly good. Me and Loo Knee had an accident yesterday and I don't think im going to get a replacement seatbelt by Wednesday morning (MOT time) so I think I will remove the passenger seat and give it a go ;)

The floor and sill. It was my fault, Daz had been welding for a while and I cleared off the the shed to pess some poly bushes into the drop links and when I came back it was smoking a bit.  ;D

No it is fine now looks like new :y

Still puzzled though as to why it caught.... the floor seems to be double skinned, there was a hole that got my finger in to get out the rusty bits and couldn't touch the floor :-?

Not really, they have drains from the hood which exit at the sills and they block. The plates were only small.

Here's some p0rn for you, then, Pete: http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php  :-*

Keith is on a couple of the kit car forums I belong to. He's built a couple of Westfields based on MX5 running gear (worth bearing in mind if the tin worm returns). ;)

The wrong side of the pond but some ideas on that site for sure.

Hmm. :-/ Never been into replicas TBH. I did have a bad experience when I met some throbber at Le Mans trying to convince me that his (badly) converted Pontiac Fiero was a real Ferrari 348 though.

He even went to the lengths of complaining about the lack of Ferrari dealers in the area when he managed to throw a rod through the side of his asthmatic V6 trying to do a burn-out.  ;D

The sight of it being winched onto a low loader didn't make me  ;D that much, honest.

Its something I would feel OK about on the Mazda, it doesn't look as scary as the V6 ;D

Lol, yes but, you need to do a FULL engine rebuild, not just a head change!
