I would be grateful if anyone could help. My 2.6 V6 cuts out while I am driving along! This happens after I have been driving for around 20 minutes. I leave it for about 5 mins or more and it starts up no trouble. I have had a garage and the RAC look at it and no codes were found. I have changed air filter, fuel filter and had a new battery fitted!

Classic crank sensor failure.
Buy a genuine one from a genuine Vauxhall Dealer that you genuinely have to walk in to. Expect to pay around the £90 mark.
Takes about 15 minutes to change.

This is were I bought my last ever one from. Genuine with the hologram

Aye, Crank Sensor.
Only buy Genuine from a dealer as advised.

Do dealers still stock them? :-\

Yep :y

Got mine online from MegaVaux, came in a VX baggie complete with hologram. It's also lasted about 30k and 3yrs so far. So either is genuine, or a good enough copy that it doesn't impact on quality.
Think I paid about £70. :-\

For the sake of £20-25 I would buy from VX rather than take the chance.

Really? You can walk out with one immediately? Or does it have to ordered, which I find more likely.

Yes really, last one I bought without having to pre-order it from the Dealers closest to where I work. May have just been luck of course.....
Thing is, we all know that the crank sensor has time and time again proved to be one of the few items that seem to only be reliable if genuine.

Possibly, it depends if you can get to a dealer/they have one. In my case, I had sh!t to be doing and was blessed with the most useless dealer (any brand I've dealt with not just VX) as my nearest. ;D

Thanks for all the replies. How difficult is it to replace? My car is a 2.6 V6 auto.

doable from underneath by parking the NSF wheel on the curb, removing the single retaining bolt, wiggle the sensor out, disconnect the plug, and remove the sensor complete with wiring(this is probably the trickiest bit as its route is complicated, so it's common to find the ends cut off). Then you drop the new sensor down, routing the wire away from the exhaust, plug it in, push the sensor into its hole and refit the bolt.
If this is your first, then jacking the car onto some axle stands would be advisable :y
