Title: Paper clip test
Post by: cwill144 on 30 August 2020, 11:43:57
Finally have driven my 3.0 V6. Ran ok at first then seamed to be on 5 cylinders. Have done paper clip test and have code 16 (knock sensor) but seam to be getting 12, but no code for that. Any ideas? Will try changing knock sensor.

12 denotes the beginning and end of the readout. It's not a fault code in it's own right. You have 16 which is the offside bank knock sensor. Whilst it could be faulty your symptoms sound more like the coil pack or the crank sensor. Check the plug wells for oil and/or water submerging the plugs.

Thanks, will swap the knock sensor. The engine has just been put back in, had issues with plug leads, have a space coil pack so might change and see. Will check plugs for oil.

the O/S knock sensor wiring is easily damaged when working on that corner of the engine.

a faulty knock sensor won't be the cause of the misfire.

Have ordered the parts, no oil spark plug wells, so hopefully the parts will sort it. For info, tried again this morning when cold ran fine, drove about 1/2 mile when it warmed up went onto 5 cylinders again!!!
