Title: Good brakes
Post by: Raeturbo on 01 September 2020, 23:20:48
Had to pull up very quick earlier on.  Must say I was very impressed how quickly and safely I stopped I’m using pagid pads. These Omegas are great stoppers.

Adequate rather than impressive... with reasonable pedal feel :y

Yes, especially for a big heavy estate With lpg extra weight too :y And I have Carbotech XP10 fitted to the Evo £250 Just for front pads, that stops rather sharply, but for around £50 odd all round pads  the Omega done me proud. :y

I have Pagid on the rear of the Tata. They seem fine.

I recently executed an emergency stop from a genuine 70 MPH. The car stopped in 165.3 feet. About average, I think.

I've said it many times, the Omega brakes are excellent ONCE.  Retarding 1800KG, especially on 'boaty' Elite Suspension is no easy task, and considering their diminutive size they do work well.  But, try it again 5 minutes later, and you may as well pull the handbrake and close your eyes!  ;D

An Omega's brakes are powerful enough to easily fire the ABS at 130mph, repeatable in quick succession a handful of times.  At more sensible speeds, a well maintained Omega can do about 10 70-90mph to zero stops in quick succession before you lose significant braking power.  If you exceed that - unlikely on modern UK roads - then you need brake upgrades.

That is with Tradeclub pads on GM discs, well maintained callipers and fluid changed on time.

Last set of Pagids on my Omega were disappointing (and last set on the Zafira). The last set on the Indian have been fine-ish.

Actually, joking aside, well maintained Omega brakes are more than good enough for road use, even pretty abusive road use. Thats the point :).  Track days will as an utter minimum need track day pads, but ideally bigger discs and bigger pads and calipers that can use them.
