Title: How do I remove this bastard?
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 09 January 2021, 15:22:37
I thought it would simply pull out. :(

A couple of wires look like they need replacing. :(

Are those wires something to do with the fuel gauge/fuel level?

Reconnect the battery and touch them together to see if there is current!  :y

I've pressed and released the two large plastic clips on the side of the basket but no......

As that's the swirl pot the pump sits in, why do you need to remove it? Fit a new pump to its bracket and reassemble everything.
Insulating the damage to those wires would be sensible

Yes.....I watched this but it didn't show how the basket was removed. Mine seems stuck solid. I want to get it out because it will make it easier to fix the wires.

clips look like they go out, not push in if you look at the video
also look at images of the swirl pot and pump on the google  ;)
it's different to the astra ones i have done, they are not attached like that

I've tried pushing clips in.....pulling clips out......pushing down......pushing down and twisting in both directions... yanking with a combination  of brute force and ignorance.

My guess is that some f*ucker has used Araldite. ;D

I've extracted the pump (looks and sounds like a clit stimulator sex toy) from the plastic casing, so may just buy this if it works out cheaper.

Anyone know the function of the shagged wires?

Gauge sender ;)

Gauge sender ;)

Thanks......not essential for the pump to work then. Do I have that right?

If it is just for there for the fuel gauge to work in the car I may not bother pissing about.

if you haven't yet broke anything or do so when you put it all back together  :)

Anyone know the function of the shagged wires?
usually all 4 wires go to the multi plug
pump live, pump neutral
level sender neutral or live and sender signal

looks like someone has replaced the sender ,was the damaged wiring trapped by the locking ring ? not going into the multiplug

Technically correct, but having them exposed in the tank is, er, unwise. As is the gauge not working.  ;)

The sender plugs into the underside of the cap and exots out of thee top in the flat black connector  ;)

I know how it's meant to be  :y

oh I see ,it's the black plug far right of the pic ,
i thought someone had run a separate 2 cores/wires direct to the sender, bypassing  the 4 pin plug ,routed into the gasket instead , my bad

I think there are 2 multiplugs side by side on the underside of the 'lid'

Two wires going to each. The two wires that are stripped are connected to the basket.

I am financially 'robust' so don't need to be doing this, but like to fix things where and when I can. Perhaps I'm just weird. :) :) ;)

The work shy scouser wouldn't bother. :)

It's much easier to steal a complete running car than dick about fixing one  ;)

It looks like there's a single tab top and centre of the sender 'unit'... It isn't clear as the camera is looking straight down at it... Hold this towards the centre of the swirl pot and the sender should simply slide up ;)

Access into the rank to see what's what isn't great, but at least you aren't trying to do it from underneath  ;)
