Everyone must have seen it. "Look them in the eye and tell them you're doing everything you can to prevent the spread of covid"."Stay home...blah..blah" This afternoon there was hold up at a big roundabout in Barnsley. After queuing for about ten minutes we realised that a queue for MacDonalds drive through was the cause. So if it's open, that must mean you can drive there for a burger. If you are allowed, that must mean it's an essential journey...to MacDonalds...for a burger.
Telling folk to stay home to save lives, and opening a burger joint drive through? Fickin morons.
-
Even morons need to eat :-X
Besides, it keeps a handful of people working.
-

Besides, it keeps a handful of people working.
That's not the point. People are not morons, people are doing exactly as they're allowed to do under the rules. But you know that already, you just can't help sticking a pointless post in , usually followed by a ::) or a :-X
-
What was your point then? That people are morons for queuing to visit McDonald's or that the powers that be let them ???

It's obvious to me, and most others, I should think.

Let me see if I have got this right.
The government say stay home but allow takeaways to open and IDIOTS take that as permission to go out each day to get a beefburger and the problem is the government? When did people stop taking responsibility for their actions? Boris is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt.
Our nearest village has an infection rate of 1 in 18. The builders merchant’s wife died having contracted cv19 . Probably more to follow. Not a shop open except one small supermarket.
I am surprised nobody condemned Jab and go on here ( Ryanair).
Got months if not years to go yet.
-
So, somebody is an idiot for getting into their own car (with or without their household), drive to a fast-food retailer, drive through the aptly named drive-thru, make a contactless payment, take their food and eat it.
What is wrong with some people, eh?
-
Haven't had a burger from Mcds for several years & never will again since an employee in a Cambridgeshire branch was caught adding his sperm to the burgers, kinda put me off.

Stay home.....but we'll let MacDonalds open, but don't go there, take personal responsibility. FFS, some people on here are as thick as Boris. You don't tell people to stay home, or they'll kill grandma, only go out for essential journeys, and then open MacDonalds drive through......do you?

It's food you total ignoramus. Nobody is having a party in there with Ronald.
Bore off, you silly old sod! ;D ;D ;D
-
Our local McDonalds causes a big traffic que as well >:(
knobs can't even get into the car park and just sit with their indicators on ,causing a que past a fire station and sometimes as far down as the cop shop.
the police/council should shut it down and make it move to a suitable location that can cope with people queued .
why people que for ages and pay for burgers is beyond me .It's hardly difficult to cook a burger and some chips ::)
-
The whole point of my post was that putting a guilt trip on people by imploring them to stay in is fickin stupid. Who, exactly, is not allowed to go out? MacDonalds workers and customers, supermarket workers, bin men, factory workers, postmen, etc, etc, can all go to work. Anyone can go out for exercise, to get food (including burgers), to go to the doctors/hospital, etc, etc. Just who can't go out?

God, not you as well. I'm not blaming the people who go out. I'm blaming the fûckin idiots who put ads on the telly telling them that they shouldn't go out. Jeez.

It's no different to popping to the corner shop to grab a snack at lunch time.

The Council, and likely the Police would have been involved in the planning application. You expect them to go back on their lengthy and costly decision?

Those who need food, go to get food.
I'll side with you on this; McDonalds in most of the Country can be delivered by UberEats. This means the Household doesn't need to go out...... but I'm sure you'll find a problem with a delivery driver being out of his/her/it's house.

Except a sandwich won't hold up traffic for 15 minutes

Some folk will eat total shite because they don't know how to cook a decent meal.

who can't go out?
I said in another post, as soon as any changes to lockdown are announced, the TV news and papers make a list of what you can get away with , people don't need to have fast food ,unless they are homeless and don't have a kitchen surely :-\
shop once a week ,buy food, cook it ,eat it

No. I was trying to quote you saying that someone (I have no idea who) is trying to guilt trip people...... and then you saying that no-one is trying to guilt trip.

to control the Virus ,save lives perhaps :-\
maybe without the TV adds everyone apart from me would be queued up ,trying to get to McDonalds :D
I go the long way round now to avoid that section of road ::)

there must be quite an audience :D

Ah but queuing at a roundabout for an unnecessary McDonalds junk food meal is slowing other people making essential journeys ...
to work, care for the vulnerable, a once a week or less essential shop ,hospital appointment etc etc
slows the response of police, ambulance ,fire
pollutes the air
;D
FTFY :)

Don't forget what the police are always saying. You could have a crash and tie up the emergency services when they could be attending an emergency. You're not a real emergency, even though you've been nearly decapitated, because you're a selfish bastard who was going for a burger.

up to a point ,the Traffic around McDonalds is a slow 2 MPH crawl at best ,so unlikely to be a high speed crash :P
BUT , you do tie up ambulances and NHS staff if you catch or spread Chinese Virus because you are making unnecessary journeys to McDonalds .
so people with non covid related illness can't get treated and die :(
-
Best to stay home & stay safe , unless of course you fancy a snack..🍔

Right, shall we clear something up?
When a McDonalds, Burger King, KFC et-al apply for planning permission, or permission to occupy an existing building, the local council make decisions. Those decisions usually include the Rozzers, as apparently, anti-social-behaviour tends to be around said establishments.
McDonalds (other chains are available) would have spent money on traffic flows, entrance and exit safety etc.
The council will have the final say, they (should) have done all the necessary checks at great taxpayers cost.
TL;DR Don't blame the public who are getting (what is not terrible) food for the piss-poor road layout. Blame the MP you voted for/not for. ;)

that's fair enough
The TV add says "are you doing ALL you can to stop the spread of Chinese Virus COVID-19"
advert clicky (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-_FeNrTRV8)
longer add clicky (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThkLdlwFdZA)
is nipping to McDonalds ,or other fast food outlet several times a week "doing ALL YOU CAN ? " :-\
less going out = less spreading Covid 19
going to work, infrequently as possible shopping , medical appointments etc ARE necessary :)
Burger, fries and THICK shake, not so much so IMHO

Driving to a Drive-Thru, getting a meal and then driving home is far more safe than driving to Tesco, walking into the store and getting a ready-meal, or standing on a road-side at a Dog-Wagon and getting a Breakfast Roll.
I don't understand why people are getting vexed over Drive-Thru places.
I visit one almost daily. My work is classed as essential, and I NEED FOOD on the road.
I can go to Tesco, Esso, Shell, Asda, WhoTFever and get a sandwich, but I have to physically enter a premises.
HOW FLIPPING HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND? ;D ;D ;D
-
"doing ALL YOU CAN ? "
-
"doing ALL YOU CAN ? "
Yes, I understand your point Dave.
As I've posted before in this thread;
Getting into your own car, drive to a local Drive-Thru, contactless payment, drive home.............
OR
Getting into your own car, drive to a local Tesco, put on mask (or not if you're a cock) walk around touching things that other have touched, dodging morons left-right and centre, settle on a pasty which possibly several people have touched, take to either a 'staffed' till or 'self-service' till, walk out and get in car.
????????????? ::)
-
I'll add, these Drive-Thru places, whether you love them or hate them, are serving the nation safely (better than shopping; see above), and the fact there are queues at them makes me feel happy that the general public are taking the lockdown rules seriously. The less people in Supermarkets the better. If a family decide to have a Drive-Thru meal, they are FAR safer than grabbing something quick from a Tesco Metro.

Or take sandwiches prepared at home. ? Actually the real problem is the folks who say shall we cook a meal or shall we go out for a takeaway. And while we are out put some fuel in car and get some chocolate and nip into Tesco metro for a pint of milk.
-
I'm with Broomie, it's just you miserable old bastards are pissed off at getting held up in traffic jams caused by all these people staying safe! :P ;D
-
Anyway I broke the rules yesterday... ::)
I've got things on my mind at the mo and had to get out of the house. As the weather was a bit pish I went for an aimless drive and ended up at a small East Devon fishing second home village as the weather cleared and went for a long walk on the almost deserted beach. :y
Essential? Maybe. Did I stay local for my exercise? Nope. Did it do me any good? Abso-bloody-lutely! :y
-
Right, shall we clear something up?
McDonalds (other chains are available) would have spent money on traffic flows, entrance and exit safety etc.

That's how it used to be done. But if you think those things are still done by people who understand how traffic works in general, let alone in specific areas, you're dreaming.
It used to be done like that, by an employee of the council. Now it's all subcontracted, so a spotty oik who graduated 20minutes ago will turn up from 200 miles away, sit in his car at the site for 20 minutes at an irrelevant time of day(10:30 for a school for instance) and make his recommendations based on the inadequate information gathered. I expect everyone here could critique a poorly laid out junction near where we live caused by this policy - I could pick one about 1/3mile away, and 3/4mile in the other direction.
-
What if the spotty yoof who serves your burger has Covid and breathes all over your grub ?
Personally I wouldnt take the chance at the moment.

Completely agree :y
adding your lunch food to your weekly shop cuts out 7 trips to a fast food or take a ways
you can sandwiches as a batch and freeze them ,get them out each morning and by lunchtime they have defrosted but chilled :) or take a flask of soup etc ,microwave meal
Boris said " Shop as infrequently as possible "
as for other people touching food ,the risk is reduced by preparing it yourself
and you can spray all your WEEKLY shopping with disinfectant and quarantine it ,or use a UVc lamp ,or BOTH :y
so make your food yourself :)
Also being prepared and planning ahead means you won't need to make so many trips out
think of it as the more trips out people make, the more people will die ,one day that could be someone you know or love , not just some statistic on a tv news show .
-

This would be impossible for some dozy bastards in the United Kingdom, plain old common sense hardly seems to exist anymore.
-
....... plain old common sense hardly seems to exist anymore.
unfortunately I have to agree :(
"Fail to prepare ,prepare to fail"
a simple task like making a shopping list and sticking too it would help in supermarkets ,
rather than people standing for ages ,staring at the shelves, deciding what to have for lunch that day .
only to return the next day to do the same ::)
TB's cull becomes more and more appealing ;D

I wouldnt buy a supermarket sandwich even if Covid didnt exist. All our shopping is wiped down with alcohol infused wipes before being put away in the fridge / cupboards, which is probably about as much as can be reasonably done to try and protect us from catching it from it I suppose.

Exactly right and that is what I do, but I did before all this, shopping only at Sainsbury's via Smart Shop when I do not have to interact with anyone. :y :y

I make them myself so as to help keep my carbon footprint small...... :D ;D

Enjoy your burger. :y

Is that really true? You have to grow the food that cattle eat, and consider the whole system. Which is something that statements of that nature don't.
Cows provide milk before they're meat, and leather too, so I suspect they're more efficient as a process.

Enjoyed a Quorn pie recently. Not as bad as people might think.
It was tender and tasty.......with a sort of odd meaty flavour. :)
I think simple food is the best. Leftover heated up shepherds pie is lovely, especially if you add cheese and crisp it up. :y

Tried Quorn and finished up throwing it in the bin....and I hate wasting food!

There is a reason, and I don't know what it is either. Do we have a food boffin here at OOF?
Certainly not a boffin, but the flavours are allowed to develop for that much longer.
Slightly related, I prefer some foods cold, like Pizza. I think hot cheese loses a lot of it's flavour..... probably because it burns like a mothafu**a so you get it down your neck double-quick-time. ;D

Quorns and lentils have feelings too we should launch a campaign to save them :D

When real meat goes, I’ll go... don’t be sad.
Bacon Sandwich..... :-* :-* :-* :y
.
That’s a reason for life just on its own👍
The bacon must be crispy and cooked. I won't eat meat that looks like a good vet could get it back on it's feet. ;D
Agreed. As Elvis said " I want a meal, not a pet". :)
