A plane has made an emergency landing in Denver, Colorado after the engine failed soon after take off, caught fire and scattered debris over a residential neighbourhood in the town of Broomfield. :o

There's a video of the burning engine on this Twitter thread taken from inside the aircraft. :o

Kudos to whoever was calm enough to film it! :y I'd have been too busy filling my kaks! :o ::) ;D

A face mask probably got sucked in to the engine :-\
-
Bet that was scary 😱

A GE90 at full chat wouldn't even notice a facemask...
Corrosion from sitting around for a year more like :-X
Although a very similar incident happened three years ago, almost to the day, and another Hawaii bound United 777, UAL1175.
Credit where it's due, the compressor casing held up 8)

Those intake fairings aren't that heavy, especially when 80% of the assembly is missing, but it wouldn't have bounced off the roof of the house. There's a few people in Broomfield who should be buying lottery tickets. :o

No, no, no, no, no. Keep up!
Millennials now can only watch stuff happen on an LCD screen, so in order to look out of the window, they have to point a gayPhone at what they want to look at.
Its exactly the same as standing in the way of live rounds in Burma. Unless you can post it on your favour social media site, then it couldn't possibly have happened.

I believe a young William Shatner was on the flight, and witnessed the whole scary episode.

If you're caught in summat like that, and have the presence of mind, film it. You can't do anything about it nor can you control the outcome.
If you walk away, it's something to show the grandkids, if you don't, it could help identify the cause, which will help the NTSB whitewash investigation, and hopefully help prevent it from reoccurring ;)

Im a nervous flyer, so I would just put my head between my legs and kiss my arse goodbye. ::)

All the 777-200s with this PW engine have been grounded pending the investigation.
-
First the MAX, now this. Seems like Boeing is having more trouble keeping 'em up than half the members on here. ;D
-
I’ve always been assured by the RR insignia on plane engines on boarding.

You forgot the 747 dumping its engine parts in the roofs of Dutch cars just before this last one. But mostly ignored by mainstream media, as a video of a burning engine is better TV

It's not a Boeing phenomenon.

Depends on who orders the Aeroplane. They can be General Electric, Rolls-Royce or P&W.

Only three ordered it with the PW blenders... United, JAL and Korean.
BA ones run the GE90 with only two real issues... A fuel leak at the start of a take off roll at Las Vegas, and a fuel icing issue at Heathrow.
In fact, apart from two Malaysian hull losses in one year, it has a pretty decent safety record.

No, but the British media ave it in for Boeing currently, following the 737 Max cock up.

Not much good trying to avoid flying if they've taken to dropping bits of aeroplane on your head :D
