i know its a peugeot so you'll tell me to bin it but its been reliable until now
just passed MOT came home parked up and left for a week then won't start. First i check the fuel lines (as these can leak) and fuel filter appears blocked. - replaced. fully primed the system so no air in that but still no start
Try my code reader (old ELM327 one) which has worked on it before - no joy. tried reader on another car - works fine. have checked all fuses in both fuse boxes - they are fine too. Am baffled
So am thinking to focus on reading the ECU for now, and worry about any subsequent fuel issues later. Does that make sense? anyone out there with experience on the 1.4hdi with a better suggestion?

Check you are getting fuel at the rail feed when priming, if the fuel filter was bad then the pickup in the tank could be in a similar state.
Also make sure the fuel filter housing and cap are not cracked, very common on Pugs as they are pretty flimsy, check also the O-rings are correctly fitted.
When priming the bulb should go pretty much solid when fully primed

thank you - very useful
i'll pull the pickup out of the tank, that's a good call.
the priming bulb is not hard and despite lots of effort it is not going hard. could be related to the pick up...
filter housing is good - is one of those sealed ones, just replace everything and connect the pipes & diesel heater.
still don't know why my code ready won't connect
