Windows 11 :-\
lots of talk and speculation and leaks about the announcement EVENT at 11 am (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/event) 24th June 2021
"Microsoft will continue to support at least one release of Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025"
I hope it's free for the new version or free to upgrade too from windows 10 :-\
as i've just purchased several Windows 10 digital licences ::)
-
another leak says windows 11 won't run on computers without UEFI BIOS and TPM (trusted platform module ) 2.0 :o
I hope that's not the case or i've just upgraded a shed load of E waste ,though theoretically 3 more years use as windows 10 machines
-
F*ck me!! ;D
-
Damn!
I'm only just getting used to my new Windows ME :-\
-
Think I'd have trouble remembering how to use a pc now, been using my iPad for so long.
-
There is an article about it on the bbc tech page.
Win10 support finishes 2025. Plenty of time to decide what to do.

Not when you're a hoarder like Dave. He's got enough tinned soup to last till 2030.
-
;D ;D

Actually I'm down to my last half dozen trays of cans of soup :o
obviously that doesn't include soup and wet meals ,MREs etc in the bunker
(https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51aCcd7MsZL._AC_SX355_.jpg)
Why doesn't the EXCEL spreadsheet flag such dangerously low stock levels >:(
AGAIN this is Bill Gates fault :D

You've had the jab as well. :D

Some recent motherboards support TPM via a header socket on the board, if you've bought a mobo recently check if it had it and I'd be tempted to try and find a module now because they probably won't make them in a few years time, due them being integrated into the board.

I did look into the TPM add on situation :y
most of the computers have TPM version 1.2 and no header for an add on TPM :(
the very latest update of windows now disregards the TPM v1.2 chip and states "Standard hardware security not supported" :(
so Microsoft are insisting on motherboards only a couple of years old :o
how many perfectly good computers will get binned because of this TPM 2 only requirement to run windows 11 :o
not very environmentally friendly that's for sure !
Windows 11 hasn't been announced yet till tomorrow :P
it must be the worst kept secret ever , or leaked for publicity :-X
it's been a week or so since Windows 11 got "leaked " but already the tech geeks have figured a simple way to allow the running of windows 11 on a computer without TPM 2 ;D
windows 10 is supposed to be supported till october 2025 :)
unless Microsoft decide windows 10 needs TPM 2 as well :-\
Microsoft have a big announcement tomorrow anyway
I wonder what that could be ??? ;D :D

Win11 was leaked ages ago, as part of the pre-release closed Betas of what was originally Windows Next. No matter how many NDAs you et people to agree to, somebody will always want their 5 mins of gaytube fame.
As for H/W compatibility, for the most part, virtually nobody pays to upgrade their OS, and only does so if it automatically upgrades itself. An OS should be irrelevant to the user.

I've purchased genuine retail software 95 ,ME ,XP pro ,Vista ,7 home and pro ,10 home and pro ,many copies /licences plus office software ::) as do many people . I'm well aware of keygens ,generators etc ,i've purchased computers with windows "activated " with patches :( ,they never stay updated and activated ::)
and only does so if it automatically upgrades itself. An OS should be irrelevant to the user.
the O/s is pretty relevant to the user when the O/S is no longer supported and Bill needs another £140 :P
if 11 is a free upgrade from 10 then fair enough .we might find out tomorrow :D
-
The point is 99% of people don't buy a new OS. If the OS needs to be replaced, a new computer is needed (in their eyes). This is partly the reason for the unrealistic OS pricing. Not many would stump up £119/199 for a Win Home/Pro retail licence, as that's a huge chunk off a new PC (outside of batflu times).
Like you, I must have bought every OS Microsoft made, bar Xenix, since around DOS3. Except Win 10, because that's always free when you have as many Win 7 licences as I've got ;D
-
And I'm not sure you'll want Win11, as its still not clear, in MS's attempt to copy Apple, if you will be able to install apps outside of the Microsoft Store. If that is the case, we're all screwed.
Win 10 still has 4 years in it though :y.
-
I'll run my old software air gapped if that's the case , like i have too anyway with some win XP stuff ;D
and install Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS (Focal Fossa) (https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/) with the Twister UI windows look a like skins (https://twisteros.com/twisterui.html) to look at tits and read emails on T'internet :P
-
Well , watching the LIVE* event so far has been a buffering sh!t show
well done Microsoft :D
*LIVE mmm , about dead by my reckoning :P
Windows 11 is a thing :o :D

You can install android apps, so stop your fickin moaning. ;D

Quite an impressive presentation so far ,though there is some really cringe worthy content
not said how much it's going to cost ,if anything ::)
also "on any device" ::) well no , any device that meets the minimum requirements :P
though the TPM 2 and UEFI requirements are an easy work around*
*but not having TPM 2 may leave the device venerable to attack , so I get why MS wanted to make it a requirement
-
Free "upgrade" from win 10 :) IF your system meets the minimum hardware requirements ::)
System requirements (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-11-specifications)
DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver ::)
so Microsoft wrote W11 for the bitcoin ethereum miners then , no one else can get decent graphic cards :-X

According to Dell (I have 3) non of the models I own will be compatible with Win 11.

After reading all the above comments I think I will just stick to Windows 10 until I replace my desktop PC.
Just too complicated!! ::) ::) ::) ;)

Do they really expect me to sit through 44 minutes and 51 seconds of that drivel? :o
Time better spent installing Linux, methinks. ;)
Can't they bring the fat, bald shouty bloke back? At least he was more entertaining than all the heart clutching and telling me how humbled you feel that I've got nothing better to do that watch your shitty video*.. :D
*- actually I have, but it's replacing the bathroom, so any excuse. ;D

I've got Linux focal fossa on a boot drive , I really should get round to getting to grips with using it ,
I've downloaded the twister add on skins that make it look like various versions of windows :)
but like 99% of people , I've been using windows for 30 years :-[
so I've got Stockholm syndrome (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm syndrome) :o
maybe i'm entitled to compensation :-\ :D

With Linux being the day job, the last thing I want to look at when I finish is Linux. Hence I'm typing this on a Mac. Which is sorta, kinda Linux based. And shite ;D
I'm sure Kevin Wood will agree, Linux remains fine as Lon as it stays in run level 3 (or multi-user.target for non luddites). Any higher is just gay. And bloaty
