...is farting around with electric cars on channel 4 tonight.
-
Is it true that you can't jack an electric car to change a wheel in the normal way because the weight of the battery might twist the chassis/body and it's recommended to use a four point lift? ??? :-\

I wouldn't be surprised but, if true, they're keeping it very quiet. ::)
-
I'll never find out, btw ;D
-
And I think you can get three full phone charges out of just one Tesla
-
I want one for commuting, but couldnt possibly afford one. ::)

Pierre is cheaper, and you love him ;D

An early Leaf might just do the job. You will need to refuel it every day though ::)
-
Talk about a pointless exercise in trying to polish a turd. ;D
I reckon this would have it for breakfast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0dsciUQp04 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0dsciUQp04)

That needs a bit more weight on the front end... :o

Got four chargers at work,so that shouldnt be a problem. :y
Cheapest one on ebay at the minute is over 4 grand, and at 11 years old I would worry that the batteries are on their last legs. :-\
-
If it's just for your commute, as long as the available range exceeds your one way commute, then it will serve that specific purpose ;)
Also, don't forget any value that Fifi has along with the fuel saving... The cost to change could well be as low as a grand :y
-
If Albs chopped in all three cars he might be able to afford a pedal car? ??? :-\ ;D
Cheap to run, environmentally friendly and you get very fit on your daily commute! :y
-
They went to all that hassle of building that beetle, when a Std Tesla is faster :)
-
Well a beetle is hardly the ideal starting point :-\

Have to say the program confirmed my current prejudice against fully EV road cars for day to day use. Not the Beetle bit, but the road trip from Hull to John O'Groats. I may only use my cars for perhaps a dozen to 20 long distance trips a year, but the aggro of having to stop every 3 hours/250 miles for up to an hour to recharge just puts me right off. And 70p/KWh !!! Home leccie is only about £15p/KWh. So almost £50 to fill up a 70KWh car to do the next 250-300 miles? Would feel a bit like when you put your card in an ATM and it tells you it's going to cost you £2 (or whatever) extra to take out your money.
Unless Guy Martin was doing something daft (entirely possible) it means I'd need 2 cars - one for the daily runabout (30 miles a day, recharge at home), and another for the occasional long distance trip (> 1000 miles a day occasionally).

Proponents of EV's like to quote the 'average' driver when talking about the distance travelled on each trip. Anyone with a bit of sense knows that average doesn't work in any scenario.

My diesel astra is on 85,000 miles now, and still going strong. I am 68 years old. If I can get another couple of years, or 30,000 miles from the old fella, I will buy a newish (3 year old is usually my mantra) diesel estate, and hope that will see me through till I hang up my keys.....all things being equal ::)
-
By that I mean; I won't get taxed off the road, become too ill or die ;D
Or the sneaky bastards make it almost impossible to find a diesel pump.

Agree with this.
It just wouldn't be viable for the amount of driving I do for work, but for someone who works in a set location and the round trip + a detour to the shops etc is within the range then it's a different story.

I can guarantee that you will die.
I'm 100% certain of this. ;D
As for being 68.......'far cough' ;D

Yes, I know. I appear to be much younger.

Ask your 'forty years younger' wifey.
She can remember how old you are, even if you can't. :)
