Heard that Tesco had coin changeing machines in thier stores, so went googling.
How much does Tesco coin machine charge?
Coinstar machines charge a fee of 9.9%. That means for every £1 you feed in, 9.9p will be taken off. This may be a price you are happy to pay for the ease of having your coins sorted automatically but it is something to consider before you cash in your change.
Well thats a no thankyou from me. :-X

I can understand the fee, there's a fair old banking charge for businesses to deposit coins/cash generally and I'm sure tesco don't give the machine operator the space for free...
However I ve never understood why anyone would use these machines, particularly when the self service checkout will take a couple of hundred coins at a time and then allow you to pay the balance by other means.
When my ex and I first got together she had hoarded a massive amount of copper shrapnel, I just made a point of filling the centre cubby of the car and dumping a pocket full in the machine every time I went in. Giving away 10% seems madness to me. :-\

There are two cash machines at work. They used to be free withdrawal but now charge 99p per transaction. People still use them though ??? ..... I refuse to pay to get at my money ::)

Go to Metro bank, they do for it free!

Quite a few take-aways are still cash only, which is why I tend to have cash in my wallet. Also, it allows my wife to say to the grandchildren "Grandads always got plenty of notes in his wallet, I'll take some out so you can go and buy yourselves something". ::) :)

Never have more than £50 in my wallet , got about £300 in our safe for " emergencies" very rarely carry any coins, have used a coin machine once in our local Sainsbury's , the wife's aunt died and had bags of coppers stashed all over her house was just glad to get rid of them, didn't take any notice of what we were charged.

I have an 'emergency' £5 in my phone case & at the moment have £30 in my wallet, but that's what's left from drawing £100 out of the hole in the wall weeks ago. :)

any old white fivers in there? ::)
A lad from work was clearing his Mum's house a few years back. He was chucking loads of empty biscuit & sweet tins from a kitchen cupboard and one suddenly made a different noise as it went in the bin ..... there was thousands of pounds in it! :o

I had a fair bit hidden away, and then some inconsiderate organisation decided to update the notes for the plastic type. The only way I could exchange them was by paying them in to my account and drawing them out again, which then leaves a paper trail, so I left it in my account. ::) And, if it's over £10K they ask where it came from. He wasn't impressed when I said 'from behind the wardrobe'. ;D

Banks pay crap interest so they make more from my money than I ever will. :-\
If I went to buy a car for example (Non dealer) then I reckon cash is king. Regardless of the asking price a pile of mixed notes has allways worked a good discount for me. :y
Having cash on me gives me a faster option to buy an item for sale when 2 people are there haggling for it and only one has cash in hand. :y
The coin exchange. I have £200 in £1 coins and £140 in £2, So Tesco would charge me just short of £34 commision. £340 in the bank would take an eternity to earn £34. How ever £340 cash at a computer fair/sunday market could get me a bargain to make money from. ( Plus I am not prepared to carry that ammount of heavy coins about on me)

True, and when you go through the likes of Justeat the prices are higher and the delivery charge is more. and minimum charge applies. :-X

I usually keep £400-£500 in my wallet.
Mainly use cards though. I have about 20 or so, but only regularly use 3 or 4.
Time for a 'card cull' :)
