although a mark 1 man myself i did like the mk2 when it came out. i remember many a family holiday in ours around the yorkshire dales. i owned one myself later and found it very nippy and comfortable .albeit not as much as the mk1 but fine all the same. much better than most modern hard rides these days.

When I saw the title of the thread I thought " Oh it's Lord Opti's 40th birthday..................................... again!" :)

Now this makes me feel old!!!
Started work at the Luton plant as the "new" Mk2 Cavalier started to roll off the production line.
I think this was December 1981.

Had a succession of Mk2 and then Mk3 Cavaliers before getting my first Omega. Loved the Mk2 SRi 130, and then the Mk3 SRI (in 130bhp form before they moved to the lesser powered 115 bhp version). Did many an enjoyable mile in a Cavalier....

I had 2 , a Y reg in Jamaica yellow (my first Vauxhall) and a gold c reg ,both saloons, great cars 8)
I had 1 MK3 hatch SRI-130 and when that was too rusty I took the 20SEH and fitted it in my H reg carlton (the head gasket had gone on the 20SE within a week of new arches and sill ends ::) ) ported/polished head on the SEH :)

I to liked the Mk1 a lot. I had 4 with the last being a sports hatch with a tuned engine.
The Mk2 F/L I had was the poor mans SRi, the GLS. 13" wheels and no Recaros but on paper same BHP and torque. Banger raced a 1600 Mk2 saloon. Then had a 1400 Mk3 that was surprisinly very fast. Once I had the Omega all painted, I then had a 1.8 saloon in "trendy" white on an M plate
Good cars all round, well built

They were great cars , very comfortable and capable .
I had three , all from new , and covered 40-45 K miles a year in them .
Well , except the first one .... :-[ a 1.6 L , it lasted 5 months .
It was replaced with a 1.8 GL and then 2.0 GLS .
I went onto the Mk3 and had another three of them but actually preferred the last Mk2 I had .
My one endearing memory of them was that the radio cassettes in our fleet were being stolen almost weekly . A guy I knew showed me him getting into my car and removing the RC in 15 seconds .
