Title: Russia, F1 might contain spoilers!
Post by: Varche on 25 September 2021, 20:47:38
Really enjoyed the quali today.

Great British prospects in Lando and George.

Shame it looks like a dry race but should be interesting nonetheless. It will be interesting to see where Alonso is after the first corner. Then we have bumper car man who will be carving through!

Excellent race. Nice to see Brits doing well.

Some other good performances, eg Verstappen. Perez and Bottas pretty poor.

Hamiltons 100th F1 victory today. An incredible, almost superhuman achievement.  8)

His time will come , I can see this being Lewis's last season , looks like he's going through the motions this year ?

I doubt this will be Hamiltons last year, but next year may well be.
You never know though. Only he knows how much motivation he has left in the tank. It takes a lot of motivation to keep performing at that level for as long as he has,

I think it has become more and more apparent in the last couple of years that his motivation is in other areas now.

He seems to have the ability to compartmentalise different areas of interest without one affecting the other, so I dont think thats the issue.
I would imagine at some point, the effort to keep achieving more of the same must start to become less appealing than it once was.

Previously, I would agree.  But now he has viable competition, I think its more blurred, and he seems more distracted/less focused, which compounds the competition issue.

If Russell lives up to expectations next year, that could be worrying him a bit as well.

It has been the dominant car. Clearly Hamilton has talent as well, even the less focused version of himself.

But then so does Mr Max, albeit it with a little less experience.  And now he has at worse and equal car.

It was the dominant car for much of the last 5 seasons or so. Only really interrupted by Ferrari when they tried to cheat their way to the front again. This year the RB has been the faster car over most of the season, although its so close that some tracks favour one car over the other. I wont deny though, that Hamilton doesnt seem completely on top of his game this year. I dont think its the pressure.
Historically one of his great strengths has been that the more pressure he is under, the better he performs.
Cold be simply an age thing. Lose 1% of your magic and it is the difference between dominance and the to and fro battle we have now ?
Comes to everyone, in every sport in the end.
Im still undecided about the level of Max,s talent. He is undoubtedly fast, but theres more to talent than that. His arrogance trips him up and he may or may not grow out of that. My guess is that its in his genes and he wont.
I actually fear that he will badly hurt himself or someone else, because although he is good. Im not sure he is quite as good as he thinks he is.
I saw someone recently compare him to Gilles Villeneuve which pissed me right off. Villeneuve would never take an inch of track he hadnt earned or give an inch to someone they hadnt earned.
I doubt Max could ever understand that. He is more of a Schumacher type of driver, and I really dont mean that as a compliment.
Whatever the ins & outs, I think its going to right down to the wire this year.

Hamilton is not allowed to race in the way that suits him, due to stupid rules and the false "excitement" of enforced pitstops.

When you can only race for a maximum of 10 laps per set of tyres, that's just a waste of time.
