Title: COP26
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 14 October 2021, 14:13:25
I thought I'd start a thread on COP26 as I'm sure there will be plenty to chat/rant about!  :y

So for starters I've spotted this on Twitter!  ;D

COP coming to Glasgow. Leaders staying at Gleneagles Hotel & 20Tesla cars (£100K each) bought to ferry them 75km back & forth. Gleneagles has 1 Tesla charging station, so Malcolm Plant Hire contracted to supply Diesel Generators to recharge Tesla’s overnight. Couldn't make it up.

A Japanese Air Force B777 has flown from Japan to Edinburgh this morning, before repositioning to Prestwick. This is the normal practice run they make a few weeks before the operational run. Last time they came (for the G7 in Cornwall), two B777's came for the actual event.

So three round trips in a B777 to carry half a dozen dignitaries 9225 miles each way - about 56,000 air miles racked up. Very eco friendly  :D

Conflicting rumours as to whether POTUS is going to turn up in person or not. If he does come, then that'll put the Japanese to shame in airmiles terms. :)

To add to the lunacy, if they have genuinely bought Model s for the event, those too will have to have been shipped/flown in as Tesla dont have any RHD ones to sell to the UK yet, and won't have until mid-late next year  ::)

So far China, India and Russia, to name just three, are countries apparently not yet signed up to attending this conference. ::) ::)

Well, that is not bloody good as two of these countries are the largest in the World, and China  is certainly the main polluter of the World!! :D

I sincerely hope that the whole circus is an unmitigated disaster. Who, in there wildest dreams, actually thinks that we are in a position to dictate to the world about climate change? The 'world' will just carry on going about it's business, while watching us skint ourselves in the pursuit of 'greenness' and not making one iota of difference.

Oh it will make a difference....... decommissioning perfectly good nuclear power stations and gas/coal fired power stations in this country when our power needs are increasing notwithstanding the extra capacity needed for electric cars etc and then.. importing dirty produced power from other countries Fk.. we’ve got our own...   let’s face it we’re not ready or prepared for this amount of bullshit green  nonsense anyway. Not that I think we can have a particularly big influence on climate either. We are now going to probably create our own power cuts this winter.

I wonder how much 'training' a person needs to drive a electric car?  ???

Is it being done in house by Glasgow City Council? Or has a training company got a nice contract to show people where the pedals and indicators are, and where to plug it in?  ::)

The other thing that jumped out of that article is that Glasgow City Council spent taxpayers money on mini buses to follow the bin lorries around!  ::) Round here the bin men rode in the dustcart like they always have.

Oh and there's the electric cars sat doing nowt!  :o  ;D

They're shutting off the clydeside expressway and junctions off the M8 into "Glesga" going to be bedlam as M8 isn't great at the best of times for congestion (Congestion = more of their dreaded pollution). I was going to rent my house out for 2 weeks for a grand a night (Self-Catering) for some of the dignataries, as I'm near Glasgow airport, but I think a lot of them are coming into Edinburgh airport - shame!  ;D

I watched the ITN news tonight and was initially shocked and then angry at the almost panic stricken imminent armageddon that was being prophesied from the studio and all at the cop venue .
It was reminiscent of the Cuban Missile Crisis where , as children , we went to bed fearing that death and destruction could visit us overnight .
It was not a news report , it was a horrid and painful death within a week , or else ....statement .
The hyperbole was almost orgasmic , especially from Robert Peston .
The report then went onto confirm that the sticking points of the final agreement were down to money and how much the poor countries can screw the rich initially and then long term.

I'm sick of the whole 'kin lot of them .
Farage is right we need a referendum on this .

And it is yet to be scientifically proven that climate change is even man made (though its quite likely that human activity has had some impact), yet its fed to us by our media as fact.

Its not that many centuries ago that Greenland was, errr, green.  Clearly dark ages eskimos used their Range Rovers too much.  Its not that many millennia ago that the ice sheets retreated, and sea levels rose dramatically - those nasty neanderthals and their V8 motors.  And not that many million years ago when sea levels rose due to temperature rises, but I don't recall the BBC complaining about what the dinosaurs were doing to the planet....

...but eat a nice bit of steak in front of anyone now, and you're the most evil person alive.

Besides we never get to hear about the undersea eruptions which are continually taking place bearing in mind 71% of our planet is covered in water. We are contributing to climate change there’s no doubt, but we are like a small fart compared to what the planet is doing naturally.

Setting aside the argument of whether climate change is real or not, and assuming it is then:

It is a no brainer that rich ( polluting ) countries pay the poor ( no polluting ) countries.  The devil is in the detail. For example paying India when they are “wasting” money on a space programme. A country like Gabon with a net zero carbon economy only has trees to cut down and possibly tourism to better itself ( a goal of most countries). So why not pay them not to chop down their trees. We only have one earth.

There is a certain irony in the richest one per cent on the planet create 16% of the problem and yet will pay very little for the privilege. No the people that will pay are your average tax payers. A good question to ask might be are these hobby space flights for the uber rich taxed heavily.

It is all very depressing when you see the bad stuff being done to the planet and its life. Bit like people that fly tip or don’t recycle diligently yet valet their car to perfection.

Because the measures they are talking about are impossible to implement, Rae. We all know they'll never get the infrastructure in place to charge all of the cars they'd like to see on our roads. We all know that air source heat pumps are an expensive joke. We all know that you could switch the UK off tomorrow and it wouldn't make a jot of difference to the global CO2 output.
They know they have to say something, but they also know it's a hopeless situation. They can hardly all get together and, at the end of two weeks, say "We haven't got a fûckin clue, we're doomed", so the put out the type of shit we're hearing now.

We're not doomed, btw, just quite a few Asian and African countries for now. We should be concentrating on how we keep the fickers out when the water gets up to their neck and they're looking for somewhere to live. Then we also will be doomed.

The truth is the nations who could do something cannot unless they can cope with thousands of businesses going bust and millions becoming unemployed, then starving to death as there is no money for welfare support of any kind!!

On Steve's point of electric car charging: My daughter will soon be ordering a new mobility car for her son, but when we looked at the Vauxhall website her Grandland X choice car, that she has at the moment in diesel form, is now a hybrid only.  Not only has she no chance of getting a charging point installed at her council house, but Vx / Mobility are looking for her to make an advanced payment of £5,500+.

So where does the government and others think us poor peasants will get the money from to "go green"  and support the cut emissions campaign by 2030?

I'm afraid, no matter how good this worldly supported aim is, with all the rhetoric, we are still all, as Steve rightly says, "doomed"!! ::) ::) :(

I remember old Stanley well. He was hilarious. I had an uncle who used to talk in a similar fashion but he wasnt doing it comically.
He was a retard who was trying to sound clever, which was even funnier than old Stanley.  ;D

Global warming?
I've just come up to go to bed. It's November 13th. My heating is off. The dog is laying at the side of the bed panting because she's too warm. Hmmmm....... ;D

I imagine it was also wet and lumpy. :(

The old boy is nearly 80 so there are bound to be accidents.

Apparently he is quite well known for his loose bowels. :)
