Title: Brakkers at night, 10 days before Xmas
Post by: TheBoy on 16 December 2021, 10:21:13
Popped out for a couple of quick drone flights after work last night, to capture the tacky, chavvy Christmas decorations people dangle over their homes.

First 5m30 are up and down the High Street - the massively lit up place on the edge of town to the left is Mercedes F1, formerly Brawn GP, formerly Honda Racing, formerly BAR (and some might argue formerly Tyrell).  After 5m30ish, starts near one of the estates, and is full on chavtastic.

All of which reminds me, is it time for Xmas Smilies yet?

Like that.  :y

How near do you have to be-to control the drone? I am guessing you were in a vehicle travelling roughly the same route.

No, I was stood in a field for both flights (that was 2 different flights).

The technology is capable of up to 10km on that particular drone - DJI Mini 2.

In the UK, legally it has to be kept within visual line of sight.  To assist with this last night, I'd fitted a small strobe, still able to keep it under 250g to comply with the UK laws around flying over built up areas.

Very good, has a decent range on it then.  :y

I did wonder if it was visible to other people/drone users, just in case any other drones were up there in stealth mode. Half expected you to get a wave from the people in the car park at 11m35s.  :)

Due to other LEDs on it, as well as the strobe I use at night, it probably looks like a UFO if you don't know what it is - if its still, it could look like a more distant plane, but as its near, around 50-100m from the ground, it looks like its moving way too fast ;D

That particular one doesn't have ADS-B (a common system used to monitor aircraft, I believe soon to be mandatory for manned aircraft in the EU/UK), but some of my bigger ones have an ADS-B receiver, so I get to see where nearby manned aircraft are :).  Although the CAA rules make it unlikely that any aircraft in the sky, manned or otherwise, would get close to other aircraft...   ...not that the idiots flying out of Hinton in the Hedges airstrip obey any rules.

I imagined this would have been a controlled flight from the comfort of the bath  ;D

I put my Christmas lights on my house yesterday.  :)

Most of my neighbours who put lights up go for 'tasteful' white or icy blue lights and I got grumbled at for not making an effort a few years ago as I never bothered.   ::)

So I went out and bought the most tackiest, flashiest, garish multicoloured set that I could find!  :y  ;D

As its a lovely calm sunny day, I toyed with going out at lunchtime and doing the same route in daylight.

But a massive attack of CBA kicked in.

Cantbearseditis is common amongst men of a certain age.

Fortunately it is not fatal like manflu.
