Up £693 to £1971....phew :o
I reckon, if I wasn't on a fixed deal, this would take mine up to around three grand. I'd better start hoping things settle down before my fix ends. I'm already paying £1800 on a cheap fix.

So your cheap fix would have been quite an expensive fix if energy prices hadn't gone completely tits up. ::)
Seriously though. Many people are living hand to mouth and they will certainly struggle.

No, my cheap fix was about right at the time. This leaky old house takes some warming.

You should get some of those nice folk from Insulate Britain round to advise you on how to insulate your house Uncle STEMO! :y
I'd imagine most of those busy gluing themselves to motorways wouldn't have a scoobies though. :-\ ::) ;D

Trying to work out whether the rise has actually done me a favour. As far as I can see, everyone in bands A-D will get £150 off their council tax, and everyone will get a £200 rebate from their energy company (to be repaid at £40 a year for five years). Then there's my pensioners winter fuel payment of £200. Hmmm....... ;D

If TB's cull started with the elderly and unproductive the government could save billions in pension payments and additional benefits.
Would you like to volunteer? :)

Our council has just spended a squillion quid on buying some (2?) thermal imaging cameras, and you can book them to come around and point them at your home to tell you where the heat is escaping from.
Probably best to turn the power off to the specialist plants you're growing in the loft first though.

The answer to my question would be 'everywhere'. Except, maybe, the windows and doors. ;D
No cavity in the walls and all that is between the top bedroom and the elements is some plaster and slates.

50 years ago heating was something of a luxury. I can remember regularly having ice on the inside of my bedroom window. Single glazed. Didn’t do that generation much harm.
Have people gone soft or do they expect to walk around in shorts.

I can remember ice on the inside of my windows 35 years ago. My curent house holds heat nicely but swmbo doesnt.
I sat at home yesterday afternoon and could hardly breather for the heat in the room.
She sat in a fleece, complaining it was chilly. ::) :( ;D

Will be interesting to see what happens with this council tax rebate, I note its only Band D and below plus it than gets recovered over the following 5 years.
Whats the chances E and above are also paying back the extra for the 5 years after?
-
Certainly glad we moved to a more modern & smaller house 3 years ago, we pay £115 per month at the moment & are £400 in credit at present the payment is fixed till September so I am expecting it to rise to around £180 , we have the thermostat set at 17 degrees which is certainly warm enough in this house.

The council tax rebate is not reclaimed, only the £200 energy rebate, at £40 pa for five years.

Winters were much colder.
No central heating so ice on the inside of the windows was common.
As a 5 or 6 year old I had a balaclava to keep warm........with two trails of frozen snot decorating my stiff upper lip. ;D

But at least we had coal fires and paraffin heaters then (which we all huddled around) ;D ;D
Until we had to use the outside toilet! ::) ::) :o Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
