Time to catch up on all the delayed maintenance on the Zafira, so been on a bit of a spending spree today:
- Clutch kit
- Gearbox oil
- Timing belt kit
- Aux belt
- Water pump
- Oil, filter & sump plug
- Air filter
- Pollen filter
- Fuel filter
- Oil cooler seals
- Coolant flush
Now I'm sure there's folks on here that could deal with all that in a morning with one hand behind their back; in my case I reckon I'll be lucky if I can do it in a full day. ;D

Does this this little lot come to more than the total value of the Zaffy? :)

Don't feel bad, Jimmy, there are also those of us who would spend a week scratching our heads before anything came out of the box ;D

About £250 Opti. So yes, quite possibly. ;D
But the car's been reliable, cheap to tax & insure and has earned its place on the fleet as a four wheeled skip and/or airport carpark punching bag. With no signs of rust anywhere that matters I'm hopeful to get a few years service out of it with relatively little further expenditure.
Steve, give it till about lunchtime on saturday for the sweary posts to come out.

Got to decide whether to tax and insure meMeega this weekend. Hasn't turned a wheel since October, and still got a duff CHG which I CBA to look at.

Yep....it's what it costs to replace it.....and you won't get much for £250. :y

And the car you replace it with will probably need ....
Clutch kit
Gearbox oil
Timing belt kit
Aux belt
Water pump
Oil, filter & sump plug
Air filter
Pollen filter
Fuel filter
Oil cooler seals
Coolant flush
:P

Too true!
And tbh the clutch is at least partially my doing. I put 11,000 miles on it since July and I'd say 80-90% of them have been either 5-6 up with luggage, plus mobility scooter and roof box, or towing a trailer.
The car has been an absolute trooper and moved pretty much everything I own (other than the kit car), so I feel it deserves some love :-*
-
Thats a day of hard work, clutch change is not a simple job :y
-
I've watched a couple of videos for tips, but yes, agreed, not totally straightforward.
TBH I am not a fan of working at either end of a transverse engine - big hands and not being able to properly see what I've done don't make these jobs my idea of a fun time.
I had a question on the timing belt change (which I'm sure the experts on here will know off the top of their heads) - I got new bolts in the kit I bought for the tensioner and the idler pulleys, but no crankshaft pulley bolt. Is this normal for the Vx 1.6 petrol? I've always replaced these before on timing belts I've done, but never worked on this engine before.
-
Two questions...
1. What is the torque figure for the crank pulley bolt?
2. Does the crank pulley actually need to be removed?

Yes, you just reuse the bolt. A word of caution, if it has the concave washer, make sure its fitted the right way round (concave section towards the crank), or they can spin

Gates kit comes with the crankshaft bolt and says to replace it ,assuming you have a zafira B ?

torque to yield
I've done many ,the £20 locking kit is worth the spend too
(includes camshaft wedges ,flywheel locking bracket etc )
sorry about the massive pics , i don't have a clue how to resize :-[

Its not taken to yield, hence the ability to re-use :y

Thanks Mark, I've got a Haynes, which I was going to use for torque figures at least.
Dave, thanks for the pics, useful to see where the flywheel locker goes. I've got the locking kit coming, hopefully today. I remember from reading a thread on a veccy 1.8VVT (chap has now passed away, his name escapes me :-[ ) that the timing marks don't line up on the vvt cam sprockets. I don't normally bother with the kits, but decided I would in this case.

Thanks Uncle Stemo for resizing and re posting the pics :)
In the time it would take me to figure that out I could replace the belt :D

So, first sweary moment of the weekend, managed to get down to the point of splitting the engine and gearbox. Went to pull the spring clip out that secures the clutch pipe to the fitting that takes it through the side of the gearbox and the fu£kibg spring clip disintegrated >:(.
So I now can't get it built back up until I get a new clip, except I don't know what they're called or the correct part number. Or, can I lock wire the pipe fitting in place as a temporary measure until I can get a clip (not going to happen on a bank holiday weekend!).
Answers on a postcard...
-
You mean a 'spring clip' :D
If it's anything like the Omega or VW ones, locking wire won't work.
At a push a suitably sized safety pin might work, but I wouldn't drive on it. :-\
-
You mean a 'spring clip' :D
Well, that is what I thought I meant, but then again, googling it didn't seem to yield any Vauxhall related results :-\
Basically it's one of these, but probably smaller and hopefully not £5 a piece. (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265553821966?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Rkn18ASkQuW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=D-AKHJpRS7-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)
-
You could probably use one of those to hold the gear change cables on :D
Size wise, a safety pin is probably your best temporary bet, although you will lose alot of fluid if it fails. In a 'if the clutch pressure goes, get the car towed home' kind of failure ;)
-
Yeah, tbh I am not planning on driving it without the clip. I really want something temporary so I can bleed the clutch and get the thing off stands. I can fettle the new clip in with basically nothing else needing to be removed as and when I get it.
-
Couldn't you fiddle one of these to fit for now, Jim?

Good idea that :)
I think I've even got some in stock - somewhere...
-
You mean a 'spring clip' :D
So, it turns out I actually don't :P
What I mean is 'Spring clip' and after some googling/farting around, I think the part number is 90512780 6 79 624.
-
Simples ;D
