Title: Zafira dipstick tube
Post by: Viral_Jim on 08 June 2022, 16:03:36
Due to a stint in hospital, then a holiday, the 1.6 Zafira B has been in bits for quite some time. The original job, which was causing me a bit of grief was oil cooler seals.

I was able to get the exhaust manifold off surprisingly easily with one notable exception. The FUŁKING dipstick tube. According to the workshop manual it should just be held in by an o-ring and pop out. Could I get it out, could I hell! As a replacement was cheap from Evil Bay I ended up cutting it off to carry on with the rest of the job but I still haven't cured my issue. If the weather's fine this weekend I'm going to have another crack at it but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue or had any sage advice. I'm tempted to drop the sump and knock the tube out from below, or rig up some sort of puller with a threaded rod, but if I'm missing a trick, I'd love someone to enlighten me!

Cant say I had specifically on a Zafira, but some Vauxhalls I've had in the past you had to press down and turn through 90 degrees to remove the tube.

The new part should give a clue as to removing it,probably grip and twist with Mole or similar

Sadly it's not giving up it's secrets that easily. It's just an o-ring held captive by two ridges in the tube.

I get a couple of mm movement before it will no longer budge so I suspect the o ring is binding up as I try to get it out. It's going to be getting some lubricant round it to try and free it off but I'm thinking a sharp tap from below with a hammer maybe required to free it.

Big screw extractor. Gently tap it and make sure you don't bash anything down into the sump. Then spin it out...
