That is the question which has now been answered. :)
-
:-\ 40 pence in the £ or 45 ???
-
That 5p has been described as Gordon Brown's time bomb and I bet he's been smiling like a cheshire cat these last few days. ::)
-
Easy to miss as this new policy only lasted about 5 minutes. :D
Not a good idea during a cost of living crisis but Trussy didn't ask for my opinion. ::) ::) ::)

Weren't we here before when Lawson reduced the higher rate tax band from 60% to 40% ..... ? :-\

Yes.....and the top rate was 40% during the Blair years.
The problem is the timing. Giving more money to the rich and bigger bonuses for bankers who brought the country to it's knees in 2008 is not a good look when times are hard and people haven't got a pot to piss in.
Bottom line is the Conservatives wouldn't get it through parliament. Too many of their own MP's would vote against it along with Labour and the limps.

Agreed on all :y

Dropping the top rate to 40% was sound policy and that Tory MP's didn't even try and sell it tells you a lot about the modern Tory party who seem bereft of small 'c' conservatives with any sort of backbone these days. :-\
Likewise the bankers bonus cap, if it makes commercial sense, just do it. I read the other day that bank bosses on the continent are worried about losing good staff to London, so it does make me wonder if the 'big short' on Sterling the other day was a coordinated attack on the UK for political reasons. ::)
As well as the city boys making shit loads! ;D

Bad timing by KK and LT in my view.
A year and an half down the line then perhaps.......
Basically they couldn't make it fly because it just doesn't look good to MP's and the public in general (apart from rich people) ::)
-
Yep. Nothing to do with economics and everything to do with the optics. ::)

And that's where the Tory MP's should have been out there selling the policy to their constituents, rather than reacting to the noisy crowd who weren't going to vote for them in a month of Sunday's anyway. ::)
The Tory party are a spineless undisciplined rabble in my view, and because of their antics these last few days they have undermined the PM and made a Labour govt more likely in 2 years time. >:(
Thank God Liz doesn't have to call a GE for a couple of years as a least she has a bit of time to turn things round, but she will need the back benchers behind her to do that. ::)

Here's a notion. As a government surely they should do what they believe to be in the best interests of the country as a whole rather than what they think the media/communists might think? ???

Starmer as PM is the very last thing I want to see, but the more I listen to the self interested wets, both on the back benches and in the cabinet, I'm starting to think they deserve to be voted out.
Since when did any Tory MP complain about benefits not rising by the rate of inflation?

You can't when half of your conservative government act like they support labour. They should be called out and sacked from the cabinet or deselected.
-
Red wall conservative MP's are starting to believe they might actually retain their seats and can't see it was all about Brexit. Knobs.

Well, there's that.

I don't see why they panic about the red wall. :-\
All the Tories have to do before the GE is start a narrative that Sir Starmer plans to take us back into the SM & CU and if they do it right, Starmer can deny it till he's red in the face, but the shit will stick! ;) Where did this rumour that the Tories planned to cut benefits come from BTW? :-\ ::)
Maybe they should bring Cummings back to handle the communications, because whoever has been doing it the last couple of years is utterly shite! ::)

There are no benefit cuts. The government say they might use wage inflation rather than price inflation, it's still over 5%. But, of course, a real terms cut. Not enough to keep up with the ever increasing price of fags, beer and recreational drugs.

Is Liz enjoying the 'honeymoon period' of being the new Tory leader...... >:D
This might be as good as it gets for her. :D ;)

Maybe it's all part of a plan and she's taking one for the team so Boris can come back and save the day? :D

Boris may be an affable old lad but he is a bit of a wet.
Suella or Kemi would be better. Pity they are girlies and not men. ::)
