Title: Flying? Is it me or what
Post by: Mister Rog on 02 March 2023, 00:04:49

Before retirement I used to fly a lot both work and leisure. Mostly USA and Europe.

In recent years however I seem to get ill, maybe not every flight but very often. Coldy, snotty, fluey thing. Just back from a week holiday. Fell ill two days after arriving. Sore throat, snot, drippy nose, cough. Just about ok to fly back with lots of medication. Still coughing up gunge.

Is this now a thing that is maybe being kept quiet? or is it me? It doesn't happen when I drive abroad.

Probably because you don't share your car with 150+ other people.

There's alot of paranoid nonsense the last few years that has kept people from mingling and retaining a general immunity to the various bugs. Two years of global lockdown has set our immune systems onto a bit of a back foot especially given the dependency on anti bacterial wipes and gels, and suddenly, with a resurgence in travel, everyone is interacting with people from all over the place and spreading and sharing 101 different bugs.

Every time I go shopping in my local German supermarket I seem to get a sniffle 2 days later that takes 3 days to clear just in time to go shopping again--------

Rog, I have started a crowd funding for you and mankind.  Not doing very well so far but that might be down to the title

Come fly with me and spread sniffles for mankind.

Dont like flying. Never have, never will. If the good Lord wanted us to fly he would have given us wings.  ;D
Only time I got near to enjoying it was in a two seater when the pilot let me have the controls for a while. Even then I was thinking that Im basically in a Mini, a few thousand feet off the ground, and that aint natural.  :)

Recently flown & been on a cruise ship with 2700 guests & 2200 crew no issues at all , must be benefits from my daily cod liver oil pill.

If I want to go somewhere I wont let my dislike of flying stop me. I just wont enjoy that part of the holiday.  :)

Flying doesn't bother me just the inevitable queue nonsense, to avoid this we paid the extra for priority , first time that we've done this & now always will a much better way to start a holiday.

I prefer flying to puking my guts up for 10 hours on a ship.

After a couple of hours there is nothing left to bring up apart from your stomach lining, mixed with a bit of kidney, lung, and liver. :-[

...plenty of blood came up when I last sailed across the North sea. The whole ship had puke everywhere. :-X

Strangely, when I drink an excess of alcohol I feel fine. :y

Must be something to do with the balance system in our brain.

A slight allergy to the specific A/C system?

The A/C on foreign coach tour excursions from a cruise ship has affected me in the past, but this was more like tired eyes, sore throat and runny nose. I also felt a bit sickly, tired and generally worn out. When we got back to the cruise ship I just laid on the bed feeling rough, but halfway through the next day I was almost back to normal.

Pretty sure the word nomal is unacceptable in 2023. It's a 'bigoted word' that offends strange people and assorted window lickers.

Not used on shampoo to describe hair type anymore, I hear. :)

Fair do's though, there just aren't that many normal people around any more.
