Title: Stripped bolt into plastic - fix?

The handle on our pressure washer is held in place with two bolts which, I now know are threaded straight into part of the plastic chassis of the washer.

I picked it up yesterday and was left holding only the handle as the bolts have stripped the plastic from the inside of their threaded holes.  ::)

I was going to araldite them back in but thought I would consult the collective "intelligence" of the OOF for a potentially better solution. I've seen that two part steel stuff at the motorfactors (no idea what its called), but any advice is welcome.

The breakage has exposed the practical weakness in the design. Gluing it back together won't fix that, and is likely to be even weaker than original. That's even more likely when you consider that gluing plastic isn't as straightforward as it looks.


Is there space for a metal plate with captive threads? That's my preferred method for fixing such problems, as any glue used is just to hold the plate in place to enable assembly.

Bigger bolts to cut new thread into the plastic,not ideal but at least as good as the original

depends on how thick the chassis plastic is, but I've used these type of things in the past at work, but generally for thicker plastic sheet

I know, desperation stakes right!

Thanks AndyB, I got a pack of these and they did the trick. How long for, who knows?! But it's good for now  :)
