Hi all well pi**ed off today Just got My second speeding fine through today 2 in 1 week. Bl**dy speed cameras. Has anyone attended the speed awareness courses they offer so you dont get the points. What can i expect on one of these courses. Both fines 37 mph in a 30 zone same road A6 Garstang Road Preston. Same camera i think.

To get caught once is bad luck, to get caught twice by same camera is careless!
-
I got caught doing 36 in 30 limit, I was offered the speed awareness course. It takes half a day and costs more than the speeding fine, but you get no points
Some people saw it as quick get out of the points, however some of us who where very proud of our clean licences did listen and watch the video's.
In my opinion they could do with being a lot harsher on the video/outcome of confirmed speed related crashes they show you.
You do have to speak, and pass opinion on certain aspects of the course.
I won't spoil it for you.
I have slowed down an awful lot since, so in my case it worked. Mainly because I do not want to increase my insurance premiums should I acrue to many points.
Upshot is I still have clean licence and drive slower.
HTH

P.S. mines was just under 2 years ago and I still keep my speed down.

i love speed camera b'use it get people like you off the road
and i can drive nice and easy
i always drive at speed limite and i always have so much problem too
i never brake for speed camera b'use already im under the limite

Thanks for that mantahatch i did have a cleen licence up to this week. At least 3 points is better than 6 that i would get if i dont go on the course. It might make me more aware hate doing 30 though Especielly on clear roads.

The speed awareness course should be part of intitial driver training --- went on mine a few years ago now (35 in a 30 zone ---- and just 50 yds inside the bloody zone from a national limit zone). However, TBH I actually enjoyed the course and felt it was very useful ---- didn't teach me anything I did not know -- but brought it all back into focus!

My wife attended one of these and said it was very usefull. I have a sat nav that pulls these things up and continuously "bongs" me if I am going too fast. Don't know how it does it but it works. Good to see one of the respondants has such a tame view of life and has never done anything wrong ;) it could be that if we all drove at the correct speed and all kept the exact safe distance appart WE WOULD NEVER GET TO WHERE WE ARE GOING FOR THE QUE! ;D

You would get there faster, particularly on motorways etc as there would be no bunching, therefore no breaking till you got to your destination... In theory ::)

I do understand what you mean but remember your speedo under reads, so it is probably ok to do 33mph max, and I use a lot more of my cruise control now.
Oh and I love annoying the nova saxo 106 etc. owners buy doing the speed limit and then leaving them standing at the traffic light grand prix. It does hot have to stop all fun.

Hey if you are refering to me, I have reached the grand old age of 43 by luck. I am no angel, have had a run in with the legal system when I was younger. Crashed my own motorbike twice. You do reach a certain age and realise "hey I could die doing this"
In my youth I lost 3 friends in motorbike accidents, 1 friend who flipped a hillman avenger, and witnessed loads of idiots roll a vw camper van.
Call me boring if you wish, but I now cling on to life with a vengeance.
It is now my goal in life to be the oldest person in the world, and really hope I can be immortal, to be old git that moans about young people all the time ;D ;D ;D

Apolgies, started to rant again, must control myself.
I was a great supporter of speed cameras for a while, but I changed my mind when I saw some of the places they are installed, and when the government released figures on how much money they earnt of them.
By the way I was caught by PC holding the speed gun.
Felt sorry for him really, he looked really pleased when he flagged me down, then really nervous when he saw me, 6 foot 4 and quite a big chap. But really a gentle giant type. I was nice as pie and fully admitted I was speeding, as I new I was.

In north wales (which apparently is very camera friendly)road deaths are steadily rising. in cumbria (which apparentlr has no fixed cameras, despite massive political pressure) road deaths are steadily falling.

Co Durham has no speed camera's, though the police do use hand held devices ::)

Bit of a difference ::) ::) ::) There may be others, it is out Chief constale that refuses, don't think any political pressure though, not that I have heard off anyway. :y
They do have portable speed signs that they move around the county, they display you speed as you aproach them if in excess of the speed, quite effective really. :y
