Title: Stemoshire.
Post by: BazaJT on 22 October 2023, 10:30:35
Going there first thing Thursday morning.Step granddaughter has agreed to buy[subject to it being as described]a MkIV Golf 1.9d.Unfortunately we'll not have time to stay and sample the delights of Barnsley as she has to be back home in time for her second driving lesson, her boyfriend is slightly less than enthusiastic at the idea of her driving back here especially as it's him that's going to be riding shotgun while I lead the way home avoiding the motorways.Easy enough done Barnsley to Doncaster and pick up the A18 all the way home.Hopefully we'll be able to get in/out of Barnsley before Stemo sets the whippet on us :D

Sunny Barnsley. You'll see what you're missing, and want to come and live here. Honest  ;D

Used to spend quite a bit of time in Barnsley in my yoof[I was born and raised in a small town called Swinton about 10 miles from Barnsley] and one of my aunts lived in Cudworth[we're heading for Carlton]on match days Barnsley fans would gather in a pub called the Corner Pin don't know if that is still there as it's the late '80's since last I went to the town.

It seems things can escape from beyond the event horizon that is Barnsley, My parcel is now marked as delivered, on Saturday at 11:54AM, to a buisness address that will have been unmanned at the time. I wonder what state the thing will be in though.

Nowt wrong wi Barnsley, the folk that live there I have allways found them to be welcoming.

One of my best mates lives in Brampton Bierlow
I also have friends in Wombwell - Stairfoot - Swinton and surrounding areas

Used to go to Wombwell market every Saturday aftertoon - lovely place - not sure if they still have the market though.

Plus I spent a lot of time at an American car scrapyard on the way out of Barnsley.

Good old days and lots of memories

Plus a few famous people from there.

My eldest daughter and her husband moved to Brampton Bierlow shortly before they married in '97 and now along with their two daughters they live there still.

We were at Boroughbridge in July with our caravan & there was a couple there with a Tesla, the wife was almost in tears over the terrible journey they'd had due to the car they were using it had taken them several hours because of charging difficulties, her final words to us were " I just want a normal car again". The caravan clubs have done several tests on various electric cars & none are up to a decent journey towing.

Who, in their right mind, would tow with an EV? They deserve everything they get.

It won't tow anything very far, but the Tesla Model X weighs about as much as a Range Rover so should be pretty stable. :-\

Besides, if it catches fire, that's one less EV and a bonus one less caravan  >:D

Stability is of no use if you're having to stop every farts end. 400 miles in a Range Rover maybe 7 hours if you stick to the speed limit. Add 3 or 4 charging stops into that and you're talking 10/11 hours. (Excluding any stops needed to extinguish the Tesla)

The were whipped off this morning. Dropped him at nine, picked him up at half twelve, couple of hours kip and it's as if nothing happened. He's really pissed off with the medical shirt that stops him licking his now non-existent balls but, apart from that, he wants out and about. Can't happen for a week or so, it's gonna be a long week.

Well she bought it. '03 plate 5door MkIV Golf 1.9 with the PD100 engine.200,000mls MoT history was good with not only any fail points put right but any advisories too. A good fistful of receipts for parts/fitting seems to show it's been well looked after mechanically and it had a new clutch+DMF in May.Bodywork a bit battle scarred but the sellers wife tended to use the touch method of parking. Was it a good buy @£750[with a full test]? time will tell I suppose, fingers crossed for her.

Should be, they are fairly bullet proof. If I am right no DPF  or EGR to go wrong?

Post by: BazaJT on 28 October 2023, 10:22:35
As far as I'm aware the car has a cat but no DPF as for an EGR I couldn't say.Fortunately for this trip I was merely chauffeur to get them there and if she bought it[which of course she did] to act as route planner/lead car to get home again avoiding motorways so she could drive it.

Not been down there for many years ::)

Went to the Princess Theatre in either 84/85, took my girlfriend at the the time fot an audition to join BucksFizz after one of them left.  (Was a joke)

Only place I have been since was Enfield for a Wedding and then we followed some friends to Romsey to spend the rest of the weekend. That would have been 90/91 ish.

Had to go to South east London a few weeks ago for a funeral, worked & lived in that area until 1987 until we moved to Norfolk/Lincolnshire, I can honestly say I never want to go back there again it's become a complete & utter shithole.
