Title: propshaft damper
Post by: countrywoman on 05 January 2024, 15:44:32
So went to fit the prop to the Austin and cant remember how the damper fits at gearbox end, one shown in Haynes did not have one and no mention. Now have seen on here? some do not have a damper so is it okay to leave it off?  Total PIA to get at when its on my scissor lift , good job it has a safety interlock as squeezed inside it to reach!!

I want to say that the proud side of the bush goes against the corresponding yoke face :-\

What I wanted to know is does the damper fit on the gearbox side of the doughnut or the shaft side and is it okayto leave it off.

The cage? Gearbox end between the yoke and the box.

Yup thats what I thought, now I have to sit under the car, hold the prop in one hand and try to line the damper and bolt into the flange with the other. That will be "fun" as its tight between the chassis inner rails.

Goes over the yoke, rotates 60° and bolts through...

Bolt. Washer. Damper thing. Yoke. Donut. Washer. Nut.

Bolt and nut might be interchangeable for access purposes, been a while since I have had an Omega box out.
