Just bought some decent fully syn Mannol 7551 oil at under £10 per 5 litres :o and it got me wondering why it was so cheap. The spec I bought is API SN/CH-4 A3/B3 and MB229.5 (which is best spec Mercedes say for my 2009 non turbo CL500, better than the other spec MB229.3 semi-syn).
I wondering if I would get any benefit from SP grade: "Introduced in May 2020, SP is designed to provide protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), timing chain wear protection, improved high temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, and more stringent sludge and varnish control. API SP with Resource Conserving matches ILSAC GF-6A by combining API SP performance with improved fuel economy, emission control system protection and protection of engines operating on ethanol-containing fuels up to E85."
Maybe they are selling off SN because SP is better - took them 4 years though.

Sn is still a very good oil👍
