Title: Dennis the Menace - Gay Bashing!
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 15 September 2008, 21:14:35
Remember the old Dennis the Menace books when you were a kid, (I do anyway) - when Dennis the bully, would pick on "Walter the softy" who liked teddy bears and teaparties?

It will never be written in that way again - for fear of upsetting homosexuals.

Views? Equality gone mad, (It never did any harm!) - or a right move, in today's diverse society?

Personal opinion is it's equality gone mad/ When I was young, I never ever interpreted it as "gay" bashing - never even crossed my mind!

TBH it never even occured to me -- it was just the bully picking on the weaker kid --- and he often came unstuck to -- so it wasn't all one sided!

Mind you -- when I was a kid "gay" meant "happy" !!!!

Effin aitch Holy Count - how old are you? That was the twenties! The great depression killed that meaning of gay. When 'gay' came back, it was a whole lot darker.

Walter the Softie has been given a girlfriend by the Beano - just in case any nosy local council worker/daily mail reader was concerned.

Shame but nowadays it has to be PC. The problem is that PC means that the minority ( who speak up ) dictate to the majority ( that don't speak up) how they have to think and act. Its time the majority stood ground and told the PC minority that they keep thier kinky ideals to them selves. They PC look at innocent situations and put a whole new interputation on subjects that you and I would never dream of. These PC persons are the deranged ones not the normal Joe blogs in the street. ;) Sad isn't it :'(

When we were young and wandered around our local wood, we were always wary that an "omo" might get us. None of us knew what an "omo" was (I remember wondering why any person would be likened to a packet of soap powder). It was only much later that I realised that what the term meant.

I guess the kids of today are much more savvy. They know what "gay" means and, sadly may even understand the term "dogging" (I always thought it meant taking the pooch for a walk). Sad that the innocence has gone.

round our way OMO means something VERY different  :o :o

we live across the road from a housing estate that is mainly forces (navy) now sometime ago there was a bit of a flurry of activity on the estate.....

it transpires there were a few women who were 'having a bit on the side' nothing new i hear you say, however to signal the coast was clear they were putting a packet of OMO in the window

OMO=Old Man Out, in other words he's out come on in!!!!!

learn something new everyday  ;D

LOL -- he lives around the corner --- well the latest incarnation of him, in Burnham on Sea (funnily enough not far from Mr Glitter when he was in that part of the world).  Big in Pontins, so I understand  ::)

More than 20 years ago, when we lived on a married quarter estate, a friends 8 or 9 yr old daughter pointed to the news paper head line ..
Gay Santa gets sacked and said 'what's that mean Dad?'
Ron very delicately explained that sometimes some boys like other boys etc etc .....
'No!' says the daughter .... 'What's "get sacked" mean?'

i had a letter printed in the beano in 1986. on the cover was a story where dennis the menace threw a brick through walter the softies dads car window. proper menacing. recent menacing amounts to refusing to get his hair cut.

i also remember a really un-pc beano character in the late 80s called 'watford gapp' about a rastafarian kid...

best comic ever for un-pc stuff has to be the legendary 'ultimate warrior santa rape edition' drawn by ultimate warrior himself, where he...um... rapes santa. bizarre. plenty of stuff about it online, cult classic for obvious reasons. no dialogue in any of the comic! what a mentalist.
